I am currently working for Protocol Education/CER Education. I really enjoy working and supporting children, and have gained a whole range of experience, from working as an sends classroom assistant/ lunch time assistant for 8 years. I find my role very rewarding and fullfilling.
I have worked within different settings, school, home support and hubs. Whilst working within each setting, I consider myself to be friendly, caring, positive, patient and have good communication skills. I am professional, honest, and respectful. I am dedicated to providing a good working relationship with both children, peers and parents.
In my last post, home support SEND assistant, I planned and adapted each lesson to the child age and ability. Promoting each area of child education development skills, using a daily structured routine that was person centered to the individual child.
I have worked 1:1 and 2:1, small group, supporting children. I have gained a whole range of different experience whilst working within different settings, also working with children with different learning disabilities and complex needs.
I have completed autism awareness course level 2, which has helped me to understand, and I have learnt a good understanding of autism awareness.
I have learnt basic Makaton language skills, to help communicate and interact with verbal, non verbal children, I would use basic Makaton language to help promote life and communication skills. Such as: sitting, standing, more, finished, stop, waiting, time, eating etc, or when singing songs.
Timetable: using PECS picture exchange communication system, to help the children understand the task in hand, and set a sutured routine, daily activity plan.
School language terminology: using daily terminology to help promote and learn children school daily language.
Adapting and adjusting each activity to each child ability. To help them to enjoy and learn new development skills.
Directed play: to help children learn new ideas. Exploring new methods.
Recognising and understanding children facial and body language.
Whist working in my previous wrole within the home setting, I would plan out weekly activities. To explore different education skills, to help and promote the child development, and life skills. Such as: physical(visiting the local park).
Sensory play, books, numeracy, phonic and letters sounds. Shape and colors, music and singing,
listening, interaction skills and creative using different topics e.g. animals, nature and where we live and the world around us, educational skills.
When I first started working with my previous 1:1, I have noticed a great difference from when i first started working with him. He can now follow simple instructions, using verbal and simple Makaton signing. As he is non verbal, and his family speak a different language.
Helped improved the child in question, concentration span, listening and interaction skills. I recognised that he learnt best though directed play,
I would this method though out his learning to help improve his learning and development skills. He would watch me , then repeat the pattern, I would encourage him by using simple instructions and Makaton signing.
I understand each child has their own individual needs. I would ensure the well-being of each child, also ensuring to follow each classroom routine and procedures, as this is very important, as children need structure and daily routines. To help avoid anxiety, sensory overload, and disrupted behaviour.
I have experience in personal care such as: toileting and changing duties.
I understand that a good team player and communication skills is a very important part of the role, such as: passing on and receiving information, been respectful, honest, reliable, friendly and approachable .
I have the pleasure of working in your dedicated school, whist I was working with Protocol Education for 3 weeks.
I would love to be apart of your team, working in a friendly, caring and independent school.
