I'm an American composer living in the UK. I recently finished a practice-led Ph.D. in Music Composition and Research involving composing and recording an opera with Academy Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons narrating. The composition "Gilgamesh" has won Silver Medal awards at the Global Music Awards both for the composition and for the composer.
I work in Cubase with sample libraries mainly drawn from Spitfire Audio and Zero-G, but I have a wide range from other libraries as well. My team and I are now working on bringing "Gilgamesh" to the stage, which will take place in late 2027.
My dissertation research examined how contemporary composers adapt ancient texts for the libretti of modern musico-dramatic stage works.
I am an experienced educator with over 15 years of teaching experience in international contexts, specializing in English language instruction, music composition, humanities, and cultural studies.
I have composed "Gilgamesh", a three-hour musical stage work that is now being developed for its stage premiere next year. The recording features Academy Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons as the narrator and John Riesen as Gilgamesh. I have a website with more information and many samples from this project that can be heard right now.
During a break from "Gilgamesh" in 2021, I made a CD of instrumental and wordless vocal pieces, inspired by literature, nature, visual art, and cinema, titled "Inner Vibration". The title piece and "Todesfuge (for Paul)" were award winners at music festivals.
Just before beginning work on "Gilgamesh", I made a concept album of mainly instrumental pieces based on characters from Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha. The name of the album is "Siddhartha Suite".
