I am a 46 year old woman, who is motivated and keen to learn new skills. I can adapt well to change, and thrive on challenges given to me. I enjoy working as a team or on an individual basis. I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to music and socialising with friends.
I currently work as an assistant practitioner within the community stroke therapy team for 20 years.
Completing interventions to promote independence.
Working as a multi disciplinary team member, including attending meetings and feeding back. Supporting new starters and rotational staff members.
Independent working, organisational skills, excellent communicational skills.
With over 26 years of experience working within the NHS as an Assistant Practitioner across a variety of clinical areas, I have developed a strong foundation of practical skills, empathy, and commitment to patient-centred care.
Throughout my career, I have worked within respiratory, orthopaedic, and elderly mental health services, and for the past 20 years I have specialised in stroke rehabilitation. This extensive experience has given me a deep understanding of the physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges patients face. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, stroke nurses, psychologists, dietitians, and the Stroke Association, I have gained valuable insight into holistic rehabilitation approaches, collaborative goal setting, and the importance of enabling individuals to participate in meaningful daily activities.
This collaborative working has been essential in improving the independence and overall quality of life of stroke survivors.
My role has required me to support patients with a wide range of needs, from assisting with mobility and personal care to facilitating rehabilitation exercises and promoting independence. I have developed strong communication skills, allowing me to build trust with patients and their families, and to adapt my approach to meet individual needs. I am particularly passionate about stroke rehabilitation, where I have seen first-hand the difference that tailored, patient-centred interventions can make in helping individuals regain confidence and independence.
Academically, I have achieved a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Pass with Merit), alongside NVQ Level 3 in Health, NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service, and Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Mathematics. These qualifications, combined with my extensive practical experience, have equipped me with both the theoretical knowledge and real-world understanding.
