About

I am a hardworking and enthusiastic animal care professional currently training towards my Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. Through over five years of hands-on experience working with horses in a busy racing environment, I have developed strong animal handling skills, a calm approach, and a solid understanding of animal welfare. I am looking for an opportunity to continue developing my grooming skills while contributing positively to a professional salon environment.

Experience

Racing Groom - Kim Bailey Racing Yard

(2021 - 2026)

After earning a distinction in my Foundation Course, I secured an apprenticeship at Kim Bailey Racing Yard and later achieved a Distinction in my Level 2 qualification. Over five years, I developed strong animal care skills, confidence and professionalism through daily hands‑on work with horses of varied ages and temperaments.

  • Groomed horses daily, including bathing, brushing, mane/tail care, and pre‑race presentation
  • Maintained excellent hygiene standards across stables and equipment
  • Monitored animals for signs of stress, discomfort, illness or injury
  • Provided calm handling for young, nervous, or high‑energy horses
  • Followed structured care and exercise plans set by trainers
  • Administered basic first aid and reported welfare concerns promptly
  • Managed feeding routines and hydration to maintain optimal condition
  • Worked independently and took initiative during busy periods
  • Communicated clearly with trainers, vets, and team members
  • Ensured health & safety and safeguarding procedures were always followed
  • This role strengthened my confidence, patience, and ability to work safely with animals. It taught me how to stay calm, gentle, and consistent, even with nervous or unpredictable animals — qualities that are essential in dog grooming.
