I am a senior postdoctoral research fellow with extensive experience working within public health in academia. I completed my undergraduate degree in mathematics followed by a master's degree in Medical Statistics. I have since worked at the University of Cambridge and at St. George's University of London.
Senior Research Fellow in Medical Statistics, St. George’s, University of London, Sept 2021 – Present In my first substantive post, I am currently leading on a research project focussing on the external validation of our UK-based model for improved childhood body fatness assessment in 19 non-UK settings and another project investigating the impact of the peer-review process on the quality of published papers developing COVID-19 prediction models. I am also providing statistical support on a number of research projects and teaching support for the MBBS and Biomedical Science undergraduate degrees.
PhD Studentship, Jan 2018 – Aug 2021
My PhD focussed on improving the assessment of body fatness in UK children of different ethnic origins. I led the statistical analyses for this project and gained further experience in a number of new statistical methods, statistical programming and writing papers for publication. I was the lead author on four papers which have been published in the British Medical Journal, the International Journal of Obesity and JAMA Network Open.
Research Fellow, St. George’s, University of London, 2015 – 2017
I led statistical analyses on a British Heart Foundation funded research project deriving and investigating the impact of body mass index adjustments to increase the validity of body fatness assessment in UK Black African and South Asian children. I gained experience of data management, statistical programming and analyses and writing papers for publication. I was lead author on three papers and three published conference abstracts.
I was also co-author on a number of papers and conference abstracts. I gained valuable experience presenting research and disseminating findings at several national conferences and meetings. This enabled me to form important collaborative links with researchers at other institutes and organisations including Public Health England.
Research Assistant, The University of Cambridge, 2014 – 2015
I worked as Statistician within the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Department during which time I was involved in a number of research projects and gained experience of writing statistical analysis plans, conducting analyses and helping draft papers for publication.
St. George’s, University of London, PhD in Applied Medical Statistics, supported by a Studentship from the British Heart Foundation - ‘Improving the assessment of body fatness, overweight and obesity in UK children and adolescents’ (full-time) 2018 - 2021. Outcome: Pass. September 2021.
