Fire and Security Alarm Engineer - Wessex Fire & Security

I am currently working at Wessex Fire & Security full time. Predominantly I work at St Marys hospital maintaining their fire alarm systems and assisting with the alarm installations for the new building work they have going on. Most days I am carrying out maintenance services for all fire alarm systems across the site, testing that they are working effectively and carrying out repairs on any faults that may present themselves.
When assisting with the installations, I work closely with external fire assessors ensuring regulations are met and that evacuation strategies are efficient and correct.

My role at Wight Fire has reinforced my knowledge and skills that I have developed during my career. Working within a more fire focused company has expanded my expertise within the industry. My day to day role included servicing, maintenance, diagnosing and repairing as well as pricing total cost jobs and installations.
I also worked on a call out rota which meant I am faced with various systems and queries that require me to use my initiative and knowledge to fault find then solve issues. I am fully competent with the main fire panels, including addressable and conventional. I have occasionally worked on Gent and Siemens panels, conducting services and attending call outs.
CCTV work has mostly been based on Hikvision, so I am proficient with this brand, however I am able to transfer my knowledge and skills to other CCTV brands. Furthermore, I am confident in working on all types of intruder alarms clients have installed on their properties and premises.

This role required me to work under pressure, meet strict timescales and provide excellent customer service. It was really important to work within strict timescales and to work under pressure; this really increased my organisational skills. Being organised was important to ensure that customers received the correct parcels within a timely manner; it also helped me to work more effectively and efficiently.
This role also further developed my interpersonal and communication skills because of the direct contact I had with customers. I would always go the extra mile for my customers, especially those that are less able to move large deliveries for example.
Refuse Collector - Island Refuse Services

I took up this role at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The role required me to interact face to face with customers, collecting unwanted items and waste from both household and commercial premises. Therefore, my day-to-day activities involve planning out efficient collection routes from all over the Island where time management and organisational skills were vital to continuously meet customer needs.
In addition, to ensure operations run smoothly, I regularly complete paperwork with collection details. This involves logging all company activity accurately in order to maintain records and correctly raise invoices. Having accurate records was vital to highlight any issues that could occur.
Production Operative - MHI Vestas Offshore Wind

During my time at Vestas, I carried out various jobs following different procedures accurately, always ensuring that I had the correct equipment. I have completed the Medium Risk Confined Space Training as well as the Scissor Lift training, along with the Slinger and Banksman course. It was vital for me to always maintain high safety standards, undertaking the procedures to follow when reporting any incidents and raising any risk hazards.
I am considerably conscious of maintaining safety standards and following the ethos of the company.
Subcontracted Electronic Fire and Security Engineer - South Coast

I spent time working across the South Coast as a subcontracted Electronic Fire and Security Engineer. My time spent working as a subcontractor was diverse. From undertaking multidisciplinary maintenance such as fire, intruder, CCTV, door entry & emergency lights, to first and second fixes on site.
Working across the South Coast meant that I would come across various brands and panel styles. I would have to use my knowledge and initiative to navigate panels that I had not come across before. When working on site I had to ensure that I was following plans and direction to meet customer expectations.
However, there were times when I would offer my expert opinion and advise to ensure that the systems were set up/working effectively and meeting their security needs.
Electronic Fire and Security Engineer - Lifeline Alarms and Security

I started Lifeline on an apprenticeship programme and spent time working towards a qualification which made me a fully qualified Electronic Security Engineer, which I completed by the end of 2016. Within 5 months of starting my apprenticeship I was able to join the call-outs rota. This required being on call for 24 hours, at least 1 day a week, with the opportunity to pick up an extra shift when it needed covering.
Working on my own, I was required to assess and deal with any situation I was faced with using my own initiative.
