• Mixing wood pulp in a machine and insuring all the stock was delivered to the paper machine on time

• Monitoring computer screens to make sure there are no blockages and how much stock is left on the screens

Machine Operator at SPC (2024-09 – 2025-04)

A rubber company making rubber for customers with machines very similar to Avon Tyres where I worked for 12.5 years. I work on a line where I load the belt with rubber and chemicals from a pallet and input the information on the computer. This must be weighed at a certain weight which I do before I put it onto the belt.

Once I have put it on the line it drops off the line and goes into a mixture. Once it has mixed it goes onto the mills where it gets cut and put into a box at the customers length and width size. I must work with the other production line staff to ensure it all runs smoothly because if your line goes wrong then it can affect the rest of the team.

I weigh, cut and lift heavy things and worked 12-hour shifts nights and days. Unfortunately, Avon Tyres recently closed down, so I was unable to work here when I moved back to Melksham but someone, I knew who also previously worked with me at Avon Tyres mentioned that he worked at SPC and how similar it is and that there was a vacancy going and with my experience working with rubber I applied and got the job. They are going to put me on the forklifts moving rubber eventually which I have also previously done at Avon Tyres.

Contractor - Escorting vehicles around the prison at HMP Erlestoke (2023-04 – 2024-09)

I worked for HMP Erlestoke as an operational service grade (OSG) mainly looking after the front of the prison.

• Opening main gates welcoming staff and visitors checking bags and searching staff and visitors with a rub down search
• Handing out radios to staff and gate passes to visitors
• Booking all staff and visitors in all vehicles that enter the prison
• Checking all vehicles inside outside and underneath
• Booking prisoners in from transfers and booking out prisoners for transfer/hospital appointments/release etc
• Driving prison vehicles to take prisoners to another prison/hospital/releases etc
• Checking cameras ensuring smooth movement around the prison so visitors and prisoners do not come into contact
• Checking in and out tools on a tool sheet that we must ensure that they have all their tools before they leave
• Walk contractors and contractor vehicles through the prison when it is safe to do so
• Radio training which I need to use to communicate to other staff
• Key training which enables me to unlock and lock the gates
• Check what contractors have in their vehicles this is to ensure the safety of all prisoners, staff, and visitors

I was part of a team who works in various area within a department packing orders for customers. I also helped keep areas tidy and hazard free.

I worked her for 12 and a half years as Production Operative. I've also trained and worked in 2 other areas. Production operative for making treads and Bead shop for making the inner lining of the tyre. I only left here because I moved to Bristol.
