Currently completing a placement on the dementia ward at Cefn Coed Hospital

• Working 12-hour shifts
• Developing strong skills in mental-health and dementia care
• Supporting patients with daily needs
• Serving meals
• Responding promptly when patients require assistance
• Maintaining a calm, therapeutic approach to communication
• Carrying out ward checks and patient observations
• Contributing to a safe and structured environment
• Working closely with nurses, HCAs, and the wider MDT
• Strengthened confidence in teamwork, documentation, risk awareness, and professional boundaries
• Enhanced resilience, situational awareness, and ability to remain composed and effective in a fast paced psychiatric setting

• Completed the Ffrind i Mi volunteer induction at the Royal Gwent Hospital
• Prepared for a role focused on offering companionship and non-clinical support to patients
• Training introduced to patient-centred communication, safeguarding, and the importance of empathy, dignity, and emotional support within a hospital environment

Work Experience - Southmead Hospital - Bristol

(2023-01 - 2023-12)

• I gained early clinical exposure at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where I shadowed midwives and supported new mothers experiencing postpartum depression and anxiety
• I took part in small support discussions, offering calm, empathetic communication and recognising signs of emotional distress
• I helped identify a mother struggling with severe anxiety and, alongside a support midwife, visited her on the ward to understand her needs
• This experience strengthened my confidence in compassionate communication and supporting vulnerable individuals in a sensitive, person centred way
