• Verify player equipment to ensure no dangerous jewellery or unapproved gear is worn
• Coordinate with assistant referees, fourth officials, and team captains to set expectations
• Act as the final decision-making authority on all match events, including awarding fouls, penalties, and throw-ins
• Keep a record of the match, track playing time, and add appropriate stoppage time at the end of each half
• Allow play to continue after an offense if the non-offending team benefits, halting it to penalize the original foul if the advantage does not develop
• Issue yellow cards (cautions) and red cards (send-offs) for severe fouls, unsporting behaviour, or dissent
• Enforce responsible behaviour from coaches and team officials
