I am a professional drama and English teacher with 6 years of international experience. During that time, I have worked in Bangladesh, South Korea and most recently Thailand. I have experience working with a number of different curricula, including the DP and MYP. I am often tasked with developing high school and middle school curricula from scratch, which are based largely on the IB and Understanding By Design models. I teach using inquiry-based and project-based learning models.
Because of my background in scriptwriting, I always run student authorship programs, which present students with opportunities to take their written work to the stage. I consider this a critical part of my work and have found that student investment in writing becomes immense as a result of this empowerment. I am used to putting on 2 productions a year, typically one musical and one stage play.
I am always excited about putting in the extra hours to see the shows come to life for the students. I also have a strong technical background, having worked as a professional theatre technician. I create and run student tech and stage teams that have appeal beyond the normal theatre student base.
I'm very keen to have the school productions be an event that brings the school community together.
Throughout the pandemic, I came up with a number of ways to keep the spirit of education alive, both at home and on campus. We recorded a feature-length film in place of the school production one year, so as to ensure that we were meeting guidelines and restrictions associated with Covid. My home-based learning program expanded the scope of our work into digital design, film, photography and live-stream role-play.
Through the subject matter in my productions, I want to help provoke thought and get students to consider what it means to be a Global Citizen.
