An experienced oncology nurse with strong background in Gynae-Oncology Nursing passionate about advancing women's health through evidence-based practice. Developed from an Outpatient Nurse new to Oncology to leading and managing a team in the Rapid Diagnostic Assessment Centre before securing a role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Gynae-Oncology. Patient focused, result orientated, compassionate, organised and methodical with the ability to provide patient education pitched at each patient's level of understanding. Provide holistic care to patients that have been diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer from diagnosis to follow-up care. Patients with an early cancer are treated locally, complex patients are referred to RMH. Patients that have been referred to RMH will still call for support as build up a good rapport with them very quickly, which instills a sense of faith in ability to support them by answering any queries that they may have.
Knowledge of the gynaecology treatments - chemo/surgery/radiotherapy - have helped to do this. Involved at the start of the patients cancer journey when they have been given their diagnosis and support patients throughout their treatment and beyond. Liaise closely with the Gynaecology Team -CNS's and Drs at RMH, once we have referred pts to them.
Signpost to agencies where they can access support groups/ welfare rights advice and complementary therapies as needed. Also organise Best Interest Meeting for pts who are not able to consent due to Mental Capacity issues. Responsible for answering messages left on the CNS answerphone within 24-48 hours and provide solutions for any queries or concerns pts may have.

Provided a comprehensive Pre-assessment service for all elective NHS and Private surgical patients. It was during this visit that pts. were pre-assessed not only for their procedure but any support they may need on discharge or during their admission. For example pts. at increased falls risks/one to one nursing requirements.
Responsible for: coordinating and supervising a shift as allocated; working with members of the wider MDT to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients and use clinical judgment and decision making about patient needs in terms of long term goals or plans. Also responsible for assisting the Ward sister / Charge Nurse with the management of the clinical environment. Additionally, was required to take responsibility for the management and development of team of employees by conducting appraisals in a timely manner.
Gynae-Oncology CNS - The Royal Marsden NHS Trust

Worked as a Gynae-Oncology CNS working with the Clinical Oncology, Medical Oncology and Surgical Oncology Consultants. Initially started as a bank CNS and was then given a permanent contract. Provided support to pts. in both NHS and PP Clinics, ensuring they were supported throughout their cancer journey.
Responsible for answering messages left on the CNS answerphone within 24-48 hours and provide solutions for any queries or concerns patients had. Also responsible for providing care for patients in both the NHS and Outpatients clinics as well as those based on the ward as needed. In clinics was the pts. advocate and provided support during a period of time when patients and their relatives received bad news.
Supported and explained things that patients/ relatives may not have understood as they were trying to process their diagnosis. New patients were introduced to the CNS service and referred to other members of the MDT such as dieticians, Welfare Rights advisors depending on the individual needs of the patient.

Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, therapeutic clinical environment for patients and their families, ensuring a smooth running NHS and Private Service for patients attending the Rapid Diagnostics Assessment Centre (RDAC). Monitored and reviewed nursing practice regularly by participating in audits in accordance with Trust policy and NMC Guidelines, such as ways to improve waiting times in the department, and complying with the Trust's policies and procedures for Health and Safety ensured the environment in which we operated was safe, clean and tidy.
