Veterinary Nurse - Easipetcare - Kettering, England

At Easipetcare I work alongside 3 vets, 3-5 nurses and 1 VCA. In my role I prepare patients for surgery, place i/v cannulas, clip and clean patients, draw up pre medications, monitor anaesthetics, assist with euthanasias, nurse consultations, cleaning and maintaining the practice and I am also a radiation protection adviser and a clinical coach.

First Opinion Nurse - Abington Park Veterinary Surgery - Moulton, Northampton

At Abington Park Vets I am a first opinion nurse working alongside a large team. This involves working certain shifts such as early wards, late wards, then operations and consults.

• On early wards we look after all the inpatients and tick off their daily needs such as walks, food, medication, physiotherapy
• Take hand-overs from general anaesthetics to make sure they are warmed up to the correct body temperature, also arranging discharges
• On late wards we do the same, but close down by cleaning kennels, mopping and sweeping the floors and handing over to vets
• When on operations we prepare patients for surgery by placing i/v cannulas, taking bloods, inducing anaesthesia under the veterinary surgeons direction, clipping and preparing patients for surgery, monitoring vitals and cleaning theatres afterwards
• When on operations and consults, we do the same but start consulting from 3 o clock, which involves doing nails clips, anal glands, pet health club check ups, cytopoint and librela injections and discharges

Registered Veterinary Nurse - Corby Veterinary Surgery - Corby, England

As a registered veterinary nurse at a first opinion practice, I carry out a mixture of roles. I work as part of a smaller team alongside 1 receptionist, 1 vet and 1 head nurse. As my training I worked once a week at one of our sister practices to gain experience of working within a larger team.

• Nurse consultations, admitting day patients, preparing theatre
• Clipping and preparing patients for surgery, taking bloods, placing cannulas

• Assisting with euthanasia's, restraining animals for injections

This role included hoovering, emptying bins, mopping, cleaning kennels, walls and surgical equipment. I also shadowed veterinary nurses to allow me to gain some experience in that field.
