I am keen to work with young people from primary school age to secondary school age, but mainly secondary school age. When I was in my last year of high school, I was an S6 buddy, which is someone who assisted the new S1's find their way around the high school and to their classes. This gave me the confidence to lead the young people through the school safely and on time for their next class.
I enjoy helping other people because it makes me feel as if I've made a difference and it helps me gain more confidence within myself and this also pushes me out of my comfort zone to speak and help more.
Volunteer - Rowantree Primary
(2026-09)
At the group I volunteer with, we do a lot of different fun activities the young people can come along and take part in like, board games, dodgeball, basketball, football, arts & crafts and a lot more. As a volunteer I help the staff lead games whether it's indoors or outdoors, I help cook the food for the young people before they arrive, I help at the end when the young people leave. We make food like curry, pasta, and hotdogs, (we also have a lot of variety of fruit and veg we put out as well) for the young people to have while they're at the group.
The group runs every Wednesday night from 6:30pm-8:30pm and the age is secondary school age (S1-S6). The group is a drop in, and they can leave if they want or need to and they don't need to be at the door for 6:30pm.
Volunteer - CLD
On the 6th of June 2024, me and all the other volunteers who volunteered with CLD got our volunteer awardsWe were noticed by all the CLD workers and by Dundee City Council. We were given a volunteer award, a Saltire award, and a volunteer t-shirt. It makes me feel good to have done a lot of hours of volunteering because the hours is the time that I've given up helping other people.
It feels good to be able to help other young people because they might not have someone they trust or a friend they can go to and when people can approach me with their problems I'm happy to help them as much as I can to my ability.
Nursery Assistant - Nursery Rhymes
(2022-10)
For my work experience I did when I was still in high school and I remember doing it in 2022 at a private nursery called Nursery Rhymes. I did work experience the week of Halloween so I helped the children make spooky decorations to put around the classroom, and they took some back home with them too. I helped out by making sure the children weren't causing any trouble, helping set the table for the children's snack and lunch times, I read stories to them, helped them get their outdoor clothes on, and I helped clean up the classroom as well as making sure the toys and bikes outside in the back garden were put away properly and safely to.
