I am a self-motivated, highly industrious, ambitious person. I enjoy working as part of a team, but I am not afraid to take the initiative when necessary and welcome opportunities to have even more responsibilities. I am currently a Commercial Director for a award winning, new build developer (Castle Green Homes). My drive and determination to succeed has helped me to become a director when I was only 31 years old.
Castle Green Homes – (Feb 2017 – Present)
I joined Castle Green Homes (formally Macbryde Homes) in February 2017 as a Quantity Surveyor. Since joining Castle Green, I have been promoted four times. I was promoted to Senior QS in 2018, Commercial Manager in 2019, then Head of Commercial in 2021 to now being in my latest role as Commercial Director in May 2022.
During my time at Castle Green, I have seen the business grow from building circa 30 homes per annum to around 400 homes now over two regions. I am responsible for the Commercial team of the business running a team of 10 staff from Trainee level to Commercial Manager. The developments we are currently working on are as follows;
Before moving into the residential sector, I was very motivated to learn about the Civil Engineering sector, and work on large civil schemes like nuclear, roads, bridges, and prison contracts. During my two and a half years at Jennings I was working as a Quantity Surveyor and also completing my final years doing my degree in Quantity Surveying in the College of Estate Management, Reading. I learnt a great deal whilst I was working in Jennings, and this helped me when I moved to the residential sector particularly when dealing with large roads and sewers contracts.
The developments I was working on was as follows;
During the recession of 2010-2011 in the UK, I was lucky enough to be able to secure a work placement after being made redundant from Watkin Jones. Lovell secured a £150m pound contract with a housing association called Cartrefi Cymundedol Gwynedd (CCG). The contract involved full kitchen and bathroom upgrades, as well as boiler and insulation and external works to more than 6,500 rented affordable properties in North Wales.
CCG are the largest social landlords in North Wales, and the contract was a JCT fully re-measurable contract on very tight margins. Lovell also placed me in University to study Quantity Surveying over this time, which involved working 5 days a week, and doing my university work from home.
Watkin Jones Group – July 2010 – May 2011
During my national diploma in construction for Coleg Menai, Bangor. I was lucky enough to be awarded a summer scholarship with fiver other classmates from the college. The scholarship involved spending working experaiance time in each of the departments for Watkin Jones.
When the scholarship ended, the successful candidate was awarded a full-time employment at a particular department. I was awarded this at the end and joined full time as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. I worked for Watkin Jones for less than a year, However I learnt a great amount, and this is where Quantity Surveying became a passion of mine and a starting point for a career in Construction.
