Bsc(Hons) adult nursing in 2006z I have worked in acute medicine since qualifying and have been promoted to deputy ward manager in 2018. I also work with Dalriada Urgent Care as a telephone triage nurse and have been there a year. I’m a leader at work and home- organisation and delegation are key.
Continued learning and educating others help the profession move away from ‘old school’ methods’ to new innovative skills to achieve a higher level of patient care and ensuring cascading of information and being open and honest with staff to create and maintain a good working environment and relations with staff and members of the mdt to endeavour a seamless transition for patients from admission to discharge.
I’m very passionate about prevention before cure and educating patients to ensure they have a higher level of health and potentially reverse reversible conditions, where possible and help alleviate symptoms by appropriate management of conditions.
In my personal life I enjoy beach walks, taking self care days by treating/rewarding myself for what I do. I’m a mother of 3 children 19,8&4 and have amazing family support and spend as much time with my children as possible, ensuring they are happy and carefree.
I have solely work in acute medicine, specifically respiratory since qualifying in 2006. howevwr many challenging patients with non respiratory conditions are also treated with the 22 bedded ward. Having a variety of patients with different conditions ensures that skills and competencies are kept up to date and continued learning to ensure best patient care. The acuity of patients vary on a daily basis and no day is ever boring.
Also with regards to the triage role I work in, a vast range of knowledge is required to ensure appropriate advice or service is provided to each patient. This is challenging but very enjoyable as I get to dig deep into all the different areas of nursing I have experienced and be able to triage accordingly.
