Caring for neurosurgical patients with SAH, SDH, ICP, EVD, SDH Drains, Lumbar drains, Tracheostomies, VP shunts, wound cares, care of patient who are confused, aggressive, with learning difficulties, history of mental disorders and patients who are deteriorating and palliative care. During the pandemic this ward was turned into COVID-19 positive ward.

• Pain management - administering pain meds prescribed by medical team

• Nutrition management including IV fluids, NG tubes, PEG tubes for nutrition and medications
• Elimination management ensuring normal defecation or assistance with laxatives

ANU is a 27 bedded regional unit treating some of the rare neurological conditions including: Multiple sclerosis, Epilepsy, Parkinsons disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Cerebrovascular disease, Dementia (Lewy Body, vascular), CJD Myasthenia Gravis, Guillain Barre syndrome and CIDP.
