I am a hard-working and conscientious individual who has often worked unsupervised for long periods of time. I supervise and manage my subordinates by showing them the best working practices to ensure the work is completed in a safe and timely fashion. Meenmore completes civil engineering contracts throughout Scotland and I regularly work away from home to oversee projects. I make sure all work is completed on time, to budget and to the highest standards. I joined Meenmore, a new start-up telecoms and electrical civils engineering company. I was given responsibility for a number of important start-up tasks.

• Recruitment, identifying suitable candidates who would contribute positively to the company
• Assisted in sourcing a suitable new yard for the company
• Organised plant and fleet for the newly recruited gangs from an appropriate tool hire companies in the areas
• Significant levels of communication with the newly appointed civils gangs to ensure they were completing all works to a satisfactory standard. Advising them of best engineering practices and ensuring all H&S requirements were rigorously adhered to
• Communicating all aspects of the job to the Meenmore management team
• Building relationships with customers to ensure the customer is fully satisfied with all work carried out and is confident in placing further work with Meenmore
• Planning jobs, discussing with the customer their requirements and providing a suitable plan for delivering the works. Supplying appropriate digital photography and associated digital mapping of the works

I was promoted to Civils Gang Lead and my new role involves all the duties and responsibilities listed under Civils Gang Member. As a Civils Gang Lead I am now responsible for the following:

• Health and Safety of all site work and the general public
• Recording and reporting of all work carried out
• Communicating all aspects of the job to the relevant Departments throughout Openreach e.g.: Reporting Open and Closing notices to the Control, Contacting Planning with any variations to the workload, Engineering for advice and to confirm attendance at site
• Provide Supervisors with daily progress reports and any additional information
• All work has to be completed to the highest possible standards. Personal safety and safety of the public is always the most important consideration. All work must be completed in accordance with current legislation

A typical day in my current position involves correctly loading the van with all the materials to complete the job safely and efficiently. The materials and equipment will include signage, barriers, stone, sand, duct, repair kits (for blockages) etc. For clearing blockages I would locate the duct line using a CAT and Genny, rod the duct to locate the blockage then excavate and repair the blockage.

I drive to jobs all over the West of Scotland and beyond with tools, material and another gang member.

I worked on the Virgin Media contract. I connected new customers to the Virgin Media services. I called the customer in advance letting them know the installation time. On arrival I assessed the work required and give the customer an estimated duration.

One of the most important aspects of this job was customer service and ensuring that the customer was completely satisfied with their equipment and the installation. While in the customers home I treated them respectfully and I made sure there was no damage to their property.

• Planning a route for the cable run, making sure the customer is completely satisfied
• Connecting the cables at the street cabinets allowing signal to be transferred
• Connecting the customers phone line
• Setting up all the new equipment they have ordered
• Controlling my stock and ordering new stock as required
• Using a hand-held computer to run tests on equipment
• Servicing the existing customer installation
• Opening manholes in the street to locate the correct cable
