Namaste, this is Sivaram from Madurai, India. I have been interested in surgery since my early years in medical school. I have liked the brain as an organ even before I got into medical school, because I feel it is comparable to the CPU in the human body and also that it has a lot of potential for clinical research.
I was studying architecture for over two years, but unfortunately, had to quit to get into medical school, and I believe I have good manual dexterity and an eye for detail which can be useful skills required in surgical branches. I strongly believe that character, dedication and willingness to learn are traits that make a great doctor, and have always tried to be benevolent and just. I am also trying to clear MRCS.
I have completed a two week clinical observership at Merepark Medical Center, and also attended the NANSIG (Neurology And Neurosurgery Interest Group) conference that happened at Imperial college London a few months back. I was also longlisted for the FY2 this year, and got a score of 358 in the SJT (Situational Judgement Test), but was unfortunately unsuccessful at the shortlisting stage, partly due to the very few number of seats available this academic year (22 programmes). I have also received several class-level prizes at presentations during medical school for topics like DOTS for Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B investigations due to my unique presentation style.
I have also attended some speciality workshops (details included in my CV).
