Translate strategic intents into tactical plans e.g. missions into budgets and targets. Seconded to manage the commissioning of the Sasol Mining Intergrated Quality Management Centre.

Plant Manager, Twistdraai Export Plant - Sasol Mining - Secunda, MP

Reporting directly to General Manager – Export Plant. Involved in efforts to revise plant production schedules to improve utilization due to a change in the saleable qualities. Assisted with roll out of Operations Excellence at plant for sustainable cost reduction.

This was done by simplifying the project tracking process. Played a role in assisting to improve employee engagement by addressing issues raised by various culture surveys. Assumed additional responsibility for the engineering department with the retirement of the Manager Engineering Services.

• Managed two metallurgical engineers who oversee a team of >80 personnel between themselves
• Rationalised costs by in-sourcing laboratory operations and plant cleaning services
• Improved plant efficiency by optimizing ROM liberation by focused maintenance on the size reduction process

Plant Manager, Zululand Anthracite Colliery (ZAC) - Sasol Mining - Mahlabathini, KZN

Reported directly to the General Manager. Responsible for beneficiation, laboratory, siding and engineering operations. Improved yield by focusing improving start up activities and minimize operational instabilities. Reduced month-end tonnage reconciliation from 2 days to 1 day after month end. ZAC achieved some 2% point improvement in saleable yield in the later part of 2007 due to optimization of the high gravity circuits.

Plant Superintendent, Boschmans - Tweefontein Colliery - Xstrata Coal SA - Ogies, MP

Reported directly to the Manager Plants. Responsible for beneficiation, siding and engineering operations. Involved in the discard dump expansion project to extend life of mine for a further 10years. Involved in efforts to ramp up plant capacity utilization to increase plant feed from 200kton to 510kton. Boschmans Plant was the best plant ito saleable production between 2006 & 2007 for Xstrata coal SA.

• Initiated minor changes to the coal flow circuits for efficiency improvements
• Assisted with roll out of continuous improvement initiatives

Plant Superintendent, Delmas Coal - Delmas Coal - Delmas, MP

Reported directly to the General Manager. Responsible for beneficiation, siding, discard dump and engineering operations. Involved in efforts to ramp annual ROM production up from 75kton to 120kton. Implemented a seasonal production schedule for the sized coal market to improve stock turnaround times. Involved in rebuilding employee engagement efforts post Delma's ownership change. Performed minor marketing function on coal sales contract negotiations.

Head Metallurgist, Twistdraai Export Plant - Sasol Mining - Secunda, MP

Reported directly to Plant Manager. Responsible for production crew comprising of 4 production foremen, 12 process artisans and 24 plant operators. Responsible for organic efficiency improvement from 93 to 97% by optimizing unit efficiencies on cyclones, screens etc. Reduced magnetite consumption from 3.5 to 1.3 kg/feed ton. Direct liaison with planning and maintenance departments.

Senior Plant Metallurgist, Navigation Plant - Landau Colliery - Witbank, MP

(1995-01 - 2000-12)

Reduced fine coal losses to below 2% by optimization of desliming screen operation and minor changes to spiral circuit. Revised coal volumes accounting systems and reporting for efficacy. Accountable for onsite laboratory.

Responsible for consumables budget for operations. Involved in training of personnel on risk assessments, planned task observations etc. Responsible for the water treatment plant. Responsible for all plant process related test work.

Seconded to Mali, Sadiola Hill Gold Plant for three months in 1997 to assist with implementation of real time mill control strategy. Efforts resulted in 100t/h increase in mill throughput.
