I am a very friendly and approachable individual with good time management skills and self-motivation. I enjoy being part of a team, but I am more than capable of working alone and taking my own initiative when carrying out tasks. Customer service was very important to me as I knew it gave me the support to get into a care setting.
I enjoy helping people to the best of my ability. I am enthusiastic and gain personal satisfaction when knowing I've carried out a good job. I would like to progress in my care job role. Throughout my years in care, I have grown a passion for mental health and childcare.
I would love to get into any of these sectors and too achieve this I would like to gain any qualifications needed.
Department Employee at B&M Store (2014-10 – 2018-08)
During my time at B&M I have learned time management and how to carry out tasks effectively and efficiently and handing pressure is an ability in which I feel I have gained more knowledge of from my time at the store. Also, communication skills are important to me as it enables an interaction with customers whether it being help with assistance or listening to a request. As this was also my first time in a workspace which wasn't education, I feel I adapted quickly.
I have grown more confidence in myself with how to carry out tasks and handling pressure which is something I feel I have improved dramatically since my time at the store. As an employee I took care of my own department which is one of the biggest in the store, I can achieve big moves and handling the pressure when the department had weekly reports in which I have to locate products and see how well the product is selling and make a note on how many is left in the store. I have been working in the same roll for as long as I have, I feel my overall skills have improved as I deal with customers daily.
My overall goal is to make sure the customer is satisfied.
Health care assistant at St. Nicholas nursing home (2018-09 – 2020-12)
My job role as a care assistant, I worked in an Emi- Dementia nursing unit which has made me grow knowledge of fire safety, moving and handling and health and safety as well as dementia overall. The main reason I wanted to get into this line of work is because I pride myself on caring for individuals with working in this environment, I have learnt how to deal and communicate with individuals with high dementia and mental health problems. My main role is to provide a high level of support with all my residents, by improving their lives by attending to their specific needs and helping them with their daily tasks, in which I have also learnt how to change catheter bags and stoma bags.
Since working with vulnerable adults my confidence has grown dramatically as I understand that the individual relies on my support. I have dealt with some challenging behaviour as well as aggression, have learnt how to stay calm and focussed to making sure they're in a safe environment and listening and providing my support where I can, to make the individual feel a trust and connection with me. As I work nights my role for every shift is to give personal care when assisting to bed.
I also focus on food and fluid charts making sure there up to date, as well as individuals who are on positional charts making sure their turned within their specific times. And helping if anyone need anything throughout the night and ensuring pad changes are done on time.
Health care assistant at Willow Gardens nursing home (2020-01 – Present)
My current job as a care assistant, I work on both units- nursing and residential. As i am coming up to over 4 years within the care sector I am proud to say my knowledge and understanding of residents needs and wants has only grew, along with my moving and handing and fire safety. I pride myself on the well-being of each individual resident and I have learnt how to not only help but to communicate with individuals with mental health and dementia Illnesses.
My main role is to provide a high level of support with all my residents and to know my responsibilities by attending to all their specific needs and their daily tasks. Since working with vulnerable adults over the years my confidence has grown dramatically. I would like to progress in my career as I know I have experience in all factors, mental health, dementia and residential and also individuals who can become aggressive due to their illness.
I continue to still work night shifts (8pm-8am) so my role from my previous care job remains the same.
