I have been involved within the electronics industry for more than 30 years’ using a variety of tools such as Mentor PADS (VX), in my current role, but have experience with Altium design suite up to V14 as well as many others EDA systems and have worked in such areas as automotive, defence, consumer, medical and instrumentation.
My responsibilities in my current role as Lead PCB Designer, is to ensure all PCB related activities are completed to the highest standards and meet all timeless and milestones set. We take a product from concept drawings through schematic capture using Mentor PADS Logic capture toolset and taking account of the mechanical definition decide a suitable stack-up for the design, often after discussions with PCB manufacturers, then layout a PCB using the PADS layout tool to meet the both the customers and our internal specifications.
I oversee all aspects related to PCBs, reviewing all designs before release (gerbers, NC drill, pick and place, EBOM, OBD++ etc..), ensuring all library management is to the highest order including the input of footprints, import of 3D models, schematic symbols creation and ensuring all company procedures are adhered to.
I also take part in the component procurement exercise sourcing many parts either direct from the manufacturers or through distributors.
I am also the technical lead for all discussions with PCB manufacturers, assembly houses etc… and obtain quotes and ensure all PCB and PCBA are delivered on schedule and meet the standards we expect (IPC Class 3).
I am also conversant with mechanical CAD issues and I am familiar with design tools such as AutoCAD.
I have also, in previous roles had project management skills and oversaw the refurbishment of a factory and the subsequent relocation of the business I was then working for. I was also responsible for new product (NPI) and new process introduction and headed a team that designed and sourced a new production line and various new plant to build the product.
