Block Paver - D B Blocks Limited
(2002-09 - 2016-09)
D B Blocks limited is a block paving company in which I take part in the installation of block paving from driveways to car parks and new build housing estates and businesses. I am relied upon as a driver and commit to driving long distances and working long hours. When we get to site we have to unload heavy tools and carry heavy materials around site whilst working to time frames, especially in the winter when we have less hours of sunlight.
I usually work with one other person on site but sometimes have to work in groups, so have to learn to work as part of a team on big important jobs. We do all types of block paving, including 'All weather paving' and 'Tegula'. Having done this job for a long time I am skilled in cutting the blocks to a fine measurement.
This makes being a perfectionist at my work attention to detail very important to me. I get on with everyone on site and being there so many years I have made a lot of long term friends.
Distribution Coordinator - GE Aviation
(2016-10 - 2019-02)
I started working in the Dutch barn stores at GE aviation. Here I attended a forklift course and passed and now hold a valid fork lift licence. I learnt how to navigate around the warehouse and on site to locate required panels for specified job numbers.
The paper work that comes with the panels then needs to be put into progress and then the panel delivered to specific locations, so attention to detail is important. Other aspects of the job are to do stock checks and the booking in process of carbon pre-preg frozen material and all various kinds of panels from various suppliers such as Hexcel and Cytec. Booking these materials in requires a program called Protos, where again attention to detail is paramount and requires attention to detail at all times.
This also requires working to a quick timeframe as the turnaround on jobs are really quick. Recently I have also been working in Store 1, helping with putting away GRN's, wrapping parts for dispatch and storage and picking selection lists for dispatch.
Tool prep / De-Bag Operator - GE Aviation Hamble
(2018-02 - 2020-10)
In my role here at GE I have expanded my knowledge greatly within the company and added to my skills matrix. I have learnt how to drive the Hubtex and use the cranes in the building, I am also now NCC trained so I am able to lay up in the clean room. Because of this and the great team atmosphere here, it has been a fantastic place to grow as a member of GE to be an integral part of that team.
My daily tasks in this role include the releasing of the part from the tool using nylon wedges to prise the part away from the tool gently, all the while being very careful not to damage the part in any way. With every part comes a variety of test pieces which have to be filed down to prevent injury to anybody handling them as they can be very sharp, then the correct information has to be written onto the test pieces relating it to the respective part. The part is then stored in the storage rack while it is waiting to be trimmed, the tool however is then to be cleaned by removing all resin from the tool to prevent FOD (foreign object damage) and wiped down with IMS (Industrial methylated spirit).
Release agent is then applied to the tool and left for 30 minutes to cure, this is to prevent futu
