In choosing to teach, I am largely influenced by two crucial elements of my life experience – my medical degree and motherhood, as a mother of three children aged 6, 4, and 1 year old. Medical education has provided me with an in-depth knowledge of human body systems, anatomy, physiology and biological science. Most importantly, it has made me understand how to convey intricate information to other people, operate in a stressful setting and focus on individual needs – all valuable skills that will serve me well as a teacher.
Having become a mother, I have seen what power education may hold. Explaining our body functions to a curious child, describing leaf changes, giving answers to many "whys" my children ask made me realize that natural human curiosity may be used as the driving force in making science appealing and engaging. As a biology teacher, I intend to use my previous experience in order to help my pupils relate science with real-life phenomena and problems.
Though lacking any teaching experience as such, I am still involved in educating daily in my own home where I deal with children's behavior issues, adapt my teaching techniques to age differences, work under stress, etc. With a strong educational background, I have been accustomed to maintaining high standards in terms of professionalism, and I am determined to use my experience to fulfill the requirements for teaching placements. What I wish to achieve is to bring my scientific knowledge and my personal life experience together to be an inspiring teacher who is empathic and knowledgeable.
