Having a parent with schizophrenia, I have had experience supporting those with mental illness from a young age being the eldest of my siblings. My career path started late having become a mother at eighteen, yet I did get into Cardiff university for mental health nursing back in 2020 which allowed me to bank as a healthcare support worker for the last 5 and a half years. I primarily have worked in acute mental health where I was given regular shifts in admissions, treatment and PICU throughout my employment.
Despite being classed as 'temporary staff', I have managed to build therapeutic relationships with many of the service users in the areas I have had the pleasure of working in for Cardiff and Vale Health board. I am experienced in restrictive interventions, having taken the role of emergency responder for the wards that I've been situated in and am confident working as part of a team and independently.

Engaging with acute mental health patients in a low secure environment and building therapeutic relationships whilst undertaking various levels of observations, escorting patients off ground independently, providing personal care and participating in restrictive interventions when necessary. I am confident working as part of a team or individually and have regularly taken the role as emergency responder for wards being trained in basic life support and physical interventions. Despite being bank ive managed to build many therapeutic relationships with patients which is evident from how they wait for me to take them on escorted rather than going with other staff.
