General Labourer - Care Recruiter

With this role I receive my work through an agency, so the agency will say to that they work in an area around me and I give my availability for that job. My job when I arrive on site varies from site to site but will usually include jobs like cleaning the welfare areas (canteen, toilets) and litter picking the site. It can also be things like putting away deliveries of materials into the containers.

As these are temporary contracts, I am on a different site each week dependant on their needs so I have enjoyed the variety of different sites and seeing how they operate.

My job was to be learning support assistant within the classroom; to support students with their learning. It was to also support the classroom lead with anything. My job was to manage challenging behaviours and create a safe nurturing environment for the students to learn in. I would be delivering lessons i.e. Maths and ICT to students.

I worked for an agency so I attend different building to assist them depending on what they require. This roll requires me to obtain skills quickly as it involves working in different environments with different health and safety procedures.

As a teaching assistant my job was to assist the teacher with the day to day running of the classroom. I would sit with the children and do some activities; as the children I worked with have Autism a lot of the activities were things that will help to improve their fine motor skills. I would use PECS symbols with the students to help them communicate their wants and needs.

I also assisted them with personal care; that can range from just escorting them to the toilet and back to change incontinence pads. Working at this job, I had to work in a team and be able to communicate well with my team and with the students as they couldn't verbalise accurately what they wanted.

Building Site Labourer - Persimmon Homes-Littleport, Cambridgeshire - Littleport, Cambridgeshire

As a site labourer I was responsible for making sure that the site was clean and free from rubbish. Another responsibility was to sweep out the houses so that they were ready for the next trade to go into. Another responsibility was to pre-plaster a house; so, I had to mark on the floors of the house where all of the plug sockets were, where any water pipes were going to be in the walls once the plasterboard was on the wall.

At the end of each shift, it was my duty to make sure that all of the houses were locked up so that they were secure overnight. From doing this job I enhanced my skills of time management and prioritisation; prioritisation was enhanced as I had to keep a list of what trades were going into what houses and at what times they were due to arrive. Time management as I needed to make sure that the houses were cleaned before the next trades went into them.

Team Leader/Supervisor - Athena Care Homes (UK) Limited-King's Lynn, Norfolk - King's Lynn, Norfolk

After being a care assistant for around 2 years, I became a team leader which involved supervising/ leading a team of carers giving them guidance to ensure the residents received the best possible care. I also liaised with additional internal staff such as housekeeping, laundry, kitchen staff and management regarding residents various needs. This role required me to also communicate with external staff too such as family members, medical professionals and funeral directors.

I would also administer medications following the procedure regarding dosage and frequency. Additional procedures I followed were regarding the reporting of incidents and safeguarding concerns. Due to the unpredictable nature of the care home I had to be organised to prioritise tasks and deal with emergency situations as they arose.

Health Care Assistant - Athena Care Homes (UK) Limited-King's Lynn, Norfolk - King's Lynn, Norfolk

Assisting on a dementia unit with resident's personal needs, serving meals and insuring that resident's social, physical, and emotional needs are met. This role involves working alongside internal and external staff such as district nurses, GPs and housekeeping staff. Communication skills are important within this role, as I am required to communicate with residents who often have limited hearing, understanding and speaking capabilities.

I am seeing the same residents all the time I need to be able to put their mind at ease, help them to relax while building a rapport, in order for them to allow personal care to be done. Within the care setting there are two main targets that you aim for, they are that the service users/ residents are meeting their fluid targets and that they are eating properly.

General Assistant (Part-time) - B&M RETAIL LTD-King's Lynn - King's Lynn

I originally started out working during the day, where I would take cages of stock out onto the shop floor and put the stock on the shelves. I would also help customers find products throughout the store. Just recently I have moved to the replenishment team where I start once the store has closed and I would take a whole pallet of stock out and I would deck it, which means that I put it down the correct aisle and in the correct place down that aisle.

Volunteer General Helper - The Club, Churchill Park School-King's Lynn - King's Lynn

I care for adults with learning difficulties, encouraging them to engage in activities ranging from football, snooker & bingo to help them develop their hand-eye coordination and motor skills. Unfortunately I had to stop going to The Club because I started working more hours at work.

As a crew member I was responsible for completing cooking and cleaning tasks within the kitchen. I picked up the skills required to work with industry standard cooking equipment very quickly, enabling myself to be moved around between areas in the kitchen to complete a range of tasks and help my colleagues if they are struggling. Working in a busy kitchen has enabled me to improve my verbal communication skills and to remain calm and courteous in stressful situations.

I took pride in all tasks that I complete including cleaning at the end of the night shift.

Team Member - Cashino-King's Lynn - King's Lynn

My role within the business was customer focused. I assisted customers with change and winnings as well as supplying them with food and drinks. I also handled large quantities of cash and as a key holder was often responsible for locking up the shop. Working a variety of shift patterns has helped me to be very adaptable. I found working in this environment very rewarding as it further helped me enhance my people skills.
