Tom Gourley

I am a driven and motivated individual, and I strive to excel in all that I do. My main interests revolve around football, both watching and playing. I have vast experience in many avenues of work, including retail, social media, and most recently sales.

All of my roles have been customer facing, so I am very experienced and confident in any customer facing roles. Throughout my selection of jobs, I feel I have developed many transferable skills like working collaboratively with others; and achieving targets to a high standard.

Retail Assistant at Sports Direct (2019-01 – 2021-12)

My experience in retail ranges from till operating, to shop-floor supervising and stock checking. The final months of my previous employment were in the first stages of the Lockdown laws being introduced, thus bringing in extra protocol and procedures to tend to the wellbeing of the customers. My role in the position was as a retail assistant at a large, busy store in a town centre.

This job required high levels of interpersonal skills and also a high level of communication ability, in order to effectively help the customers fulfil their needs. The want to help people, and the want to make someone's retail experience as stress free as possible were some of the qualities that I developed during my time in retail. Showing high levels of punctuality and eagerness were key to helping what was originally a part time summer job, become a permanent employment working around college hours.

High levels of commitment include accepting every shift that was offered to me, as working within a team requires the adaptability to fill in for colleagues when they were unavailable.

Social Media and Press Officer at Wembley FC (2021-01 – 2023-12)

Whilst working at Wembley FC, I had a combined job role of both Social Media Manager and Press Officer; my duties included coordinating Social Media Releases, Graphic Design, Feature Writing, and much more. Excluding the vital Football industry experience that this job presented me with, there were also a large number of transferable skills that I gained. A stand-out one being leadership and coordination within a group of employees, through weekly meetings and a constantly updated media release plan, as a team we were able to hit all of our targets for the year, in terms of content and followership.

Teamwork was also a very large part of this Job having to be in the very middle of a Football Club, linking the board of directors, players and manager; to the fans through Social and Digital Media over a variety of Platforms. Keeping all parties updated and informed during this season and also effectively keeping to targets and deadlines was a crucial part of my progression and development throughout the year.

Shift Manager at Domino's Pizza (2022-01 – 2023-12)

My time at Domino's began as a delivery driver on small shifts during the summer of 2022 whilst I was away from University. My tasks during this time were simply doing basic cleaning tasks around the store and using my car to complete deliveries. After returning from University over the Christmas break I began taking more responsibility at the role by starting to take control of the group of drivers and develop my management skills over 45 hour weeks in charge of the groups.

After returning in Summer 2023 I began full manager training and took charge of entire shifts at the store, taking on many more responsibilities such as: Health and safety and hygiene checks, time and man management, admin and data analysis and so on.

Assistant Manager at EE (2023-01 – Present)

My most recent and current employment is with the mobile phone provider EE, where my day to day tasks involve meeting sales targets on a daily and monthly basis. Within the first year of working at EE I had been promoted to senior sales adviser, a role that usually is only achieved after 3 years with the company. More recently after just over two years with the company I have been promoted to assistant manager for the store.

This new role has come with extra responsibilities including shift planning, health and safety operations and generally being in charge of a small team. I have a very target driven job, with my personal targets being way in excess of what is set by upper management. In this role I am required to listen to consumer needs, utilise my knowledge of products and services, and pitch the deals to the customer; ensuring that the pitched deal is suitable for both customer and business.

I take pride in my sales record at this company, having gained respect from upper management and having other employees from other stores reaching out to me for tips on meeting targets. I believe that many of the skills that I have learnt and developed during my time with EE are transferable into any industry, and that I can utilise them to adapt to any scenario that is given to me.
