Optical Assistant - Specsavers opticians

I had worked at the opticians for over 9 years which I enjoyed and gained valuable knowledge about the human eye and different eye diseases as well as understanding eye prescriptions. My role being a optical assistant involved me helping customers by giving advice on lenses and glasses based on their prescription, helping customers with frame styling. This was a face to face customer service based role and a great experience for me.

I have worked in a nursery where I have had the experience to care for young children. As a supply worker I worked in different rooms from babies to pre-school. It was a varied role where you need to assist children and meet their individual needs. It was an interesting and rewarding experience.

This job role was an interesting and varied role where there were different types of environmental health issues such as noise pollution, bonfires issues. I dealt with incoming calls from the public and logged their complaint or issue on the system ready for the officers to deal with the cases. Often I would have to use my customer service and negotiation skills to defuse angry customers before passing the complaint on.

This job is part of the council's award winning young workers programme for which I was short listed after a detailed thorough interview. This role was highly customer focussed and involved a lot of telephone work. I used my interpersonal skills effectively by helping customers to deal with their licensing queries and processing payments.
I have had the opportunity to use different software and am able to learn and adapt to them quickly. I have knowledge about all the different types of Licences the Council provides and how to acquire them.
