Currently studying English Language at Northumbria University and I’m in the search for a part-time job to fund my studies. I’ve been working since I was 16 years old, where I spent one year as a waiter, the following year in retail and then two years as a Commis Chef (started as a kitchen porter and worked my way up within a couple months). During my time working, I’ve been told that I am a fast worker and that I work well under pressure, no matter how high the demand.
I’m also very easy to get along with and can sometimes be that missing person to make a team click. I’m also passionate about what I do, especially cooking, as I want to see every dish that gets sent out to be looking it’s very best, made with care and quality. I‘m hardworking, quick to learn the specifics of each job, and I’m determined to apply myself in any scenario.
When I was living in Manchester, I started as a waiter at The Drop bar Chorlton, a Caribbean restaurant, during my year here I also helped out in the kitchen for a couple shifts, which included washing dishes and prepping dough for dumplings. After my time here I started working at Manchester United Megastore, where I dealt with match day rushes as a till worker. On quieter periods I would prepare merchandise so it’s ready to be displayed.
Then I started working as a kitchen porter in one of the busiest restaurants in my area, Bar San Juan. Here I moved my way up to a Commis Chef, which included chopping and preparing all the food in the downstairs kitchen for the food to be ready to cooked. I also assembled all the cold dishes and desserts where they’d be sent upstairs ready for customers.
Here I got taught the standards for food hygiene in the kitchen, and also how to be skilled at chopping meat, vegetables and cheese. Whilst studying in Newcastle, I‘ve worked at Simply Greek where I mainly worked as a grill chef, ensuring all the Chicken and Pork was properly cooked and ready to be made into Gyros wraps.
