Senior Software Engineer at Oxbridge (2024-01 – Present)
Working in the education sector exposed me to diverse technical challenges - from automation to data orchestration. I significantly improved system reliability and reporting efficiency, ensuring accurate data delivery for hundreds of users across departments.
- Engineered Laravel applications featuring admin dashboards, queued reporting jobs, AI proofreading workflows, and robust third-party integrations using SaloonPHP (APIs/Webhooks from Fathom, Intercom, MessageMedia, Zoho, Trustpilot etc.), including secure callback endpoints and bidirectional API orchestration.
- Developed and maintained WordPress solutions using Timber with custom page templates, admin enhancements, and fully automated CI/CD pipelines enabling reviewed pull requests to deploy directly to production.
- Took ownership of Moodle 3 infrastructure and integrations, wiring it into Laravel via Web Services for structured user data exchange, building a custom "wsuseractivity" plugin to return formatted activity data and writing Bash scripts to fully automate upgrades and deployments to newer moodle versions. Provisioning new Forge-managed EC2 instances, cloning RDS databases and EFS storage via AWS SDK, syncing required updated plugins from online directory, configuring themes, and standing up production-ready environments in minutes instead of hours. Also built SQL-driven reporting jobs that generated and emailed monthly activity summaries.
- Implemented scraping (RoachPHP) and data pipelines that processed thousands of records daily; visualized analytics via FilamentPHP dashboards.
- Automated reporting through scheduled tasks and email integrations. Reducing manual reporting time greatly.
- Built and integrated APIs (Stripe, Zoho, Trustpilot, Moodle, Smartlead, OpenAI) to unify multiple third-party systems.
- Created an AWS - Forge-based deployment script that fully automated Moodle instance setup, cutting setup time from hours to minutes.
- Oversaw Postgres and MySQL data migrations, optimizing database structure for performance and consistency.
- Designed AI-assisted proofreading and customer communication workflows using OpenAI, Intercom FinAI, webhooks, and custom API pipelines integrated into Laravel and Zoho systems.
- Collaborated with internal departments to define workflow requirements and automate previously manual business processes.
Software Engineer at Whichrate (2023-01 – 2024-12)
Through proactive collaboration with different teams, I identified workflow bottlenecks and developed solutions that streamlined staff operations, directly improving turnaround time and reliability across departments.
- Enhanced bespoke internal Laravel systems supporting daily case management and CMS workflows for operational teams.
- Rebuilt customer-facing modules using Inertia and Vue, improving responsiveness, usability, and data flow between internal and external platforms.
- Refactored legacy PHP code with PestPHP test coverage, reducing recurring bugs and improving release confidence.
- Optimised MySQL queries and reporting pipelines for faster business-critical data retrieval.
- Worked in a daily Agile environment with standups, sprint planning, and bi-weekly roadmap discussions.
Software Developer at Sketch5 (2020-01 – 2023-12)
This role combined hands-on coding, backend architecture, and leadership. In addition to core PHP development, I introduced a Node.js service to decouple builder data handling from the legacy system, helping transition the platform toward a more modular and scalable structure. I played a key role in evolving a small operation into a polished product that drove revenue, strengthened the brand and supported the company's later international expansion after investor backing.
- Delivered a drag-and-drop e-commerce website builder a bespoke CMS and website builder platform used as the company's core commercial product using PHP, JavaScript, and Laravel.
- Modernised an existing CodeIgniter platform by integrating updated software solutions, while continuously enhancing the system through feature development, improvements, and bug fixes.
- The platform became the company's main selling point, powering website creation for 20+ high-profile clients and processing live payments through Stripe.
- Integrated APIs for U.S. partner companies, enabling custom checkout experiences and external data synchronization.
- As well as integrating third-party APIs, I designed and built a lightweight Node.js API to handle CRUD operations for user sites and builder configuration data, separating structured JSON storage and auto-save logic from the legacy CodeIgniter application.
- Managed and mentored two junior developers, training them in PHP, JavaScript, and project workflow best practices.
- Worked directly with clients and non-technical stakeholders to gather feature requirements, refine workflows, and translate business needs into production-ready platform enhancements.
- Led full lifecycle development from discovery and architecture through deployment and support.
