My name is Zaynah Atif, and I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Studies, where I achieved a 2:2 classification. During my degree, I completed three different placements in a nursery setting and in Year 2 and Year 4 classes. These placements gave me valuable experience working with children across different age groups and stages of development.
In my placements, my responsibilities included supporting the class teacher with lesson preparation and classroom activities, working with small groups and individual pupils, supporting children’s social and emotional development, and helping to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment. In the nursery placement, I supported early learning through play-based activities, observed children’s development, and helped promote communication and social interaction.
Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 settings, I assisted with classroom management, behaviour support, literacy and numeracy activities, and adapting learning to meet pupils’ individual needs. These experiences helped me develop strong communication, patience, adaptability, and teamwork skills.
I am currently completing my PGCE in Secondary Education: Social Sciences, where I have gained experience teaching a range of subjects including Health and Social Care, Child Development, Education and Early Years, Citizenship, and Sociology across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. My role involves planning and delivering engaging lessons, assessing students’ progress, differentiating learning to meet a variety of needs, and creating a positive and supportive classroom environment. I also work closely with colleagues to ensure students are achieving their full potential and developing both academically and personally.
Alongside my teaching responsibilities, I am also a Year 13 form tutor. I regularly mentor students, monitor their wellbeing and attendance, and help them prepare for the transition into higher education or employment. This role has strengthened my organisational, pastoral, and interpersonal skills.
Overall, I am a hardworking, caring, and enthusiastic individual with strong communication and relationship-building skills. I am confident working with young people of different ages and abilities and have developed skills in behaviour management, lesson planning, teamwork, problem-solving, and supporting student wellbeing. My experiences have reinforced my passion for education and supporting young people to achieve their potential.
