The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, Camden, London— 1 week work experience shadowing nurses
I did a week's work experience in The Royal free hospital on a ward run by nurses. In the ward people received infusions for things like iron and also received blood transfusions and liver bioscopies. On the ward I conversed with a few patients, helped them with their machinery that monitored their treatment and also took phone calls concerning patient seating.
This experience helped me to empathize with these people due to them spending most of the day in the hospital as most procedures take place for three hours plus. I also worked with a receptionist who has been working in the NHS for 24 years who showed me how to reschedule and cancel appointments which gave me a clear insight of how difficult every role in the NHS is.
