I am a dedicated and compassionate SCPHN Health Visiting student due to complete my course on 9th October, with a strong background in community nursing and a genuine passion for improving outcomes for children, young people and families. Before commencing the SCPHN programme, I worked as a Band 5 Staff Nurse within a busy Health Visiting service, where I developed a sound understanding of the Healthy Child Programme, safeguarding, public health and the importance of building trusting relationships with families. Prior to this, I worked as a District Nurse, which strengthened my assessment skills, clinical decision-making and ability to deliver holistic, person-centred care within the community.
Throughout my SCPHN training, I have developed confidence in delivering evidence-based care, undertaking comprehensive health needs assessments, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and promoting early intervention to reduce health inequalities. I am committed to providing family-centred, trauma-informed care and empowering parents to achieve the best possible outcomes for their children.
I am enthusiastic, approachable and highly motivated to continue developing as a Health Visitor. I enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies and am committed to ongoing professional development. I would welcome the opportunity to bring my knowledge, skills and passion for public health nursing to your team as a newly qualified Health Visitor.
I am currently completing the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) Health Visiting programme and will qualify in October 2026. Throughout my training I have developed the knowledge, skills and professional values required to deliver the Healthy Child Programme, promote child development, safeguard children, support families and lead public health interventions within the community.
Prior to commencing the SCPHN programme, I worked as a Band 5 Staff Nurse within a Health Visiting team. This role provided me with valuable insight into the operational aspects of the service and enabled me to work alongside Health Visitors, supporting the delivery of care to children and families. It strengthened my understanding of multidisciplinary working, safeguarding processes, health promotion and the importance of early intervention.
Before joining the Health Visiting service, I worked as a Community Staff Nurse within a District Nursing team. This role involved delivering holistic nursing care to patients in their own homes, managing complex clinical needs, coordinating care with a range of professionals and promoting independence. It strengthened my assessment, clinical decision-making, communication and caseload management skills, all of which are highly transferable to the Health Visiting role.
Across each of these roles I have developed strong assessment, communication and relationship-building skills, enabling me to work effectively with individuals, families and partner agencies. My experience has provided me with a solid foundation for autonomous community practice, and I am committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care that improves outcomes for children and families.
Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Adult Nursing – Salford University
I successfully completed my BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing at Salford University in 2009, developing a strong foundation in evidence-based practice, holistic assessment, clinical decision-making and person-centred care across a range of healthcare settings.
