About the Client
One of our clients is the Investment and Corporate Banking subsidiary of a highly reputed global Tier-1 bank with over 7000 employees in their service. One of the top five largest banks in North America, this institution manages assets of over $650bn and is renowned for being a trusted partner with a consistently high capital base and established presence in all the mature Capital Markets worldwide. The client delivers front office and execution services across equities and equity derivatives, supporting trading desks with low-latency, real-time technology.
About the Programme
Our client’s team forms a core part of the Front Office Technology division, responsible for a real-time trading platform used for order management and execution workflows. The team is expanding its Python capability to support the platform’s backend services, APIs, and integration with real-time messaging and data infrastructure, as the platform scales across additional asset classes and desks.
Roles and Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of Python-based backend services and APIs supporting the trading platform, whilst also contributing to new modules and features from the ground up. The role will involve building and integrating real-time, event-driven components using message queuing technologies, as well as developing and optimising data access across SQL and NoSQL stores. The candidate will further be expected to work closely with Front Office, Risk, and Technology stakeholders to ensure the platform's continued reliability, scalability, and performance, and to contribute to CI/CD and containerisation practices across the team.
Key Skills
Necessary skills include
- Advanced Python programming, including asyncio, multithreading, and performance optimisation
- Experience with web frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask for backend APIs
- Experience with microservices architecture and API design
- Working knowledge of real-time event processing and message queuing (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Solace)
- Solid understanding of SQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL) and query optimisation
- Prior experience working within the financial markets, particularly front office or trading technology
Nice to Have Skills
- Familiarity with NoSQL stores such as Redis or MongoDB
- Exposure to Docker and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
- Experience with frontend frameworks such as Dash or React integrated with a Python backend
- Understanding of equity derivatives fundamentals and order lifecycle / execution workflows.
