Role Overview :

The Lead Full Stack Developer is responsible for driving technical direction and hands-on software development across the full stack. This role requires strong individual contribution as well as the ability to lead and grow an engineering team. The person in this role is expected to own major technical decisions, write production-grade code in React.js and Node.js, mentor engineers, and work closely with product, architecture, and operations teams to deliver reliable software at scale on AWS.

Responsibilities :

Technical Leadership :

• Own end-to-end technical architecture for full-stack products spanning React.js frontends, Node.js backend services, REST APIs, and cloud infrastructure on AWS.
• Lead system design reviews and define architecture patterns across engineering teams, ensuring scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
• Evaluate tools and frameworks and produce technical RFCs and Architecture Decision Records to guide adoption decisions across teams.
• Define and enforce coding standards, API design guidelines, and test coverage requirements across all React.js and Node.js services.
• Act as the escalation point for complex technical issues across distributed systems and Node.js backend services.
• Collaborate with Principal Engineers and Architects to shape the long-term platform roadmap and break it down into concrete engineering plans.

People Leadership and Mentoring :

• Lead and grow a team; conduct regular one-on-ones, provide structured feedback, and support career development at all levels.
• Drive a culture of technical ownership through consistent code reviews, system design discussions, and retrospectives.
• Partner with Engineering Managers on hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations; participate in technical interviews and candidate assessments.
• Organise knowledge-sharing sessions, internal tech talks, and documentation practices to raise the overall engineering capability of the team.
• Provide clear and regular status updates, risk assessments, and delivery forecasts to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Individual Contribution :

• Stay hands-on as an individual contributor : design and build complex features, write clean production-ready code in React.js and Node.js, and perform in-depth code reviews.
• Build and optimise REST APIs within distributed microservices architectures using Node.js, with a focus on performance, availability, and scalability.
• Design and implement cloud-native solutions on AWS using services such as Lambda, ECS, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, SNS, and CloudFront.
• Lead database design decisions across SQL and NoSQL systems on AWS; define data modelling, indexing strategies, and query optimisation standards.
• Apply strong system design principles when architecting new features and services, including considerations for distributed consistency, fault tolerance, and horizontal scaling.
• Write automated tests at the unit, integration, and end-to-end levels for React.js and Node.js codebases to maintain high code quality.

Delivery and Cross-Functional Collaboration :

• Translate business requirements into technical designs, implementation plans, and realistic effort estimates backed by system design thinking.
• Identify technical risks and dependencies early and drive resolution to keep deliveries on track.
• Work closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, QA Engineers, and DevOps to ensure smooth delivery from design through to production on AWS.
• Participate in the on-call rotation for production services; lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reviews with documented action items.
• Review and improve deployment and infrastructure practices on AWS to support reliable and repeatable software releases.

Minimum Qualifications :

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 9+ years of software development experience with strong expertise in React.js and Node.js.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams, owning end-to-end technical delivery, and influencing cross-team architecture decisions.
• Strong understanding of system design principles, including scalability, reliability, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.
• Experience designing and building REST APIs using Node.js within microservices architectures.
• Solid understanding of cloud-native architecture and hands-on experience with AWS services.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience creating technical design documentation, including HLDs, LLDs, and RFCs.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments.
• Good communication and technical writing skills.

• Is equally capable as an individual contributor and as a team lead, and can switch between both roles as the work demands.
• Writes clean, testable, and maintainable code and actively contributes to improving engineering standards.
• Takes ownership of delivery outcomes and drives problems to resolution without waiting to be asked.
• Invests in growing other engineers and treats mentoring and knowledge sharing as a core part of the job.
• Is comfortable working across the full software development lifecycle from design to production operations.
