Developer II - DevOps Engineering

Role Description Job Description The Role We are looking for a talented POS Application Engineer to work within the Platform Engineering team delivering first class application and cloud infrastructure support. The role requires you to have a broad understanding of in-store technologies and retail, but more importantly an attitude that puts an excellent result as your priority.

Understanding

Point of Sale (PoS) systems will be beneficial as well as an understanding of the lifecycle, and future, of store technology. We are constantly refining our setup and evaluating new technologies and tools to further improve our infrastructure. As it is a fast-changing environment, you will have opportunity to learn and work with latest technologies.

This is a fast-paced role, and well suited for someone looking to get their hands involved in all aspects of Retail Solution Fixed PoS using the latest tech stack. You will be responsible for helping maintain reliable service throughout all Stores and contributing to the DevOps culture within the wider Platform Engineering team. What we need from you Essential Skills To work successfully within this role, you need to: A sound working knowledge of SQL (MariaDB or MSSQL).

Advanced skills in PowerShell scripting. An excellent working knowledge of the PS App Deploy Toolkit or similar.

Experience using Tanium Deploy, SCCM or other software deployment solutions. Configuration ownership from development through to Production. Deployments of new software releases / bug fixes to both Production and non-production.

Experience in Windows trouble shooting.

Experience in creating and deploying hardware driver packages is desirable. Ability to maintain close team working with SOE engineers (3rd line support engineers) to support root cause analysis of issues. Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation for others to use and reference.

Excellent analytical skills to be able to quickly diagnose issues. Effective teamwork and inter-personal skills, with both technical and business colleagues. Ability to stay focused and goal driven through stressful and high-pressure situations.

Beneficial / Desirable Skills Extensive Retail knowledge and experience is beneficial for this role.

Experience working with a POS solution is beneficial (ideally Enactor). Desirable to have used JIRA / Confluence previously. A broad spectrum of retail IT and systems experience is desirable. Great communication skills.

Experience in constructing high and low risk deployment plans for an estate of 1200+ machines over 200+ sites. Ability to see how the retail system fits in the wider Dunelm landscape. This is not an insular role. You will be working within a team, often having to communicate complex issues to someone without as much knowledge on the subject as you have.
