Role Overview :
You will own the operation and reliability of our hybrid AWS + on- premise web infrastructure. This includes Nginx front- end gateways, AWS networking (CloudFront, ALB, EC2, Route53), and tunnels to two physical datacentres running Ubuntu, Apache, Joomla, and MariaDB.
You will ensure stable traffic flow, reliable failover, and consistent configuration across redundant nodes. You will respond to incidents, perform regular failover drills, and maintain observability across all components.
Responsibilities :
- Operate and maintain Nginx front- end servers in AWS
- Maintain and monitor WireGuard tunnels to datacentres
- Improve load- balancing and failover designs (active/passive or weighted)
- Build synthetic health checks and monitoring
- Diagnose CloudFront/ALB/Nginx/upstream issues
- Manage and support Apache/Joomla/MariaDB web servers
- Develop automated checks to ensure config parity between nodes
- Perform scheduled failover drills
- Participate in incident response (rotational basis)
Required Skills :
- Linux administration (Ubuntu preferred)
- Strong Nginx reverse proxy experience
- AWS EC2, ALB, CloudFront, VPC, SGs, Route53
- WireGuard or equivalent VPN technologies
- Strong debugging of HTTP/5xx/upstream failures
- Bash scripting, curl-based diagnostics
- Understanding of load balancing behaviour and health checks
