Java Backend Developer

Sr/Lead Developer (6-8 years)Backend and architecture

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and the Spring ecosystem.
• Build scalable microservices and RESTful APIs following clean code, SOLID principles, and established design patterns.
• Design and implement authentication, authorization, and role-based access control, including SSO and external identity provider integrations.
• Develop and optimize schemas, indexes, queries, and transactions.
• Implement caching, asynchronous processing, messaging, and event-driven communication where appropriate.
• Diagnose and resolve performance issues, production defects, and complex technical problems.

Frontend

• Build and maintain frontend features using Angular and TypeScript.
• Integrate frontend applications with backend services and ensure reliable end-to-end workflows.

AI-assisted engineering

• Use AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate design, implementation, refactoring, testing, and documentation.
• Configure and use MCP servers and connectors that give agents controlled access to repositories, issue trackers, databases, documentation, and internal tools.
• Create and maintain reusable agent assets such as project instructions, skills, prompts, and workflows for the team.
• Critically review, test, and take full ownership of AI-generated code; never ship code you do not understand.
• Ensure AI tools are used in line with data-protection and security policies, especially around clinical and patient data.

Quality and collaboration

• Write unit and integration tests and take part in code reviews.
• Contribute to application security, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Work with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and containerized or cloud deployment environments.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, QA, and DevOps throughout the SDLC.
• Mentor junior developers, including on effective and responsible use of AI coding tools, and contribute to technical documentation.

Java And Backend

Development (Primary)

• Strong Core Java: collections, streams, concurrency, exception handling, and JVM fundamentals.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data JPA, and Hibernate.
• Proven experience designing RESTful APIs and production-grade microservices.
• Solid grasp of OOP, SOLID, design patterns, and clean architecture.
• Experience with global exception handling, validation, logging, API versioning, and standardized error responses.
• Strong understanding of dependency injection, transaction management, and configuration management.
• Experience with performance tuning, debugging, and production troubleshooting.
• Understanding of distributed systems, inter-service communication, resilience, and fault tolerance.

Security and Architecture

• Hands-on experience with Spring Security, JWT, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID Connect.
• Strong understanding of RBAC, authentication, authorization, and secure API design.
• Familiarity with API gateways, service discovery, and centralized configuration.
• Working knowledge of OWASP principles and common application vulnerabilities.

Databases and Messaging

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
• Familiarity with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of Redis or similar caching technologies.
• Experience with RabbitMQ or Apache Kafka is an advantage.

Frontend

• Working experience with Angular and TypeScript (React experience is also considered).
• Good knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and responsive UI development.
• Understanding of component-based architecture, routing, reactive forms, and state management.
• Ability to independently build and maintain frontend features when required.
• AI Coding Agents, MCP, and Connectors
• Practical, day-to-day experience using AI coding agents for real development work, not just autocomplete.
• Ability to give agents good context: clear task framing, project instructions, relevant files, and constraints.
• Understanding of the Model Context Protocol (MCP): what MCP servers, tools, and resources are, and how agents use them.
• Experience setting up and using connectors/MCP integrations (e.g., Git hosting, Jira, databases, documentation, cloud services).
• Exposure to building a simple MCP server or tool integration (e.g., with Spring AI or an MCP SDK) is a strong plus.
• Awareness of risks in agentic workflows: prompt injection, over-broad tool permissions, secrets leakage, and sending sensitive data to external services.
• Discipline to verify AI output through tests, reviews, and reasoning before merging.
• DevOps, Cloud, and Tools
• Git and collaborative workflows (branching, merge requests, code review).
• Docker and containerized applications.
• CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins.
• Exposure to AWS, Azure, or another cloud platform.
• Automated testing with JUnit, Mockito, and related frameworks.
• Knowledge of monitoring, centralized logging, and deployment troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS or enterprise applications.
• Experience in healthcare, clinical research, clinical trial management (EDC, CTMS, ePRO), or life sciences.
• Awareness of regulated-software requirements such as audit trails, electronic signatures, 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, GDPR, or HIPAA.
• Familiarity with identity platforms such as WSO2 Identity Server, Keycloak, or Microsoft Entra ID.
• Experience with Spring Cloud, distributed caching, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience with Spring AI or integrating LLM capabilities into Java applications.
• Experience supporting production systems and resolving complex backend issues.

Experience And Education

• 6+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong hands-on Java and Spring Boot backend experience, with production microservices delivered.
• Practical frontend experience with Angular (or React).
• Demonstrated use of AI coding agents in professional development work.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to own features from design through development, testing, and deployment.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical decision-making
