Tesco - Software Development Engineer II - Java

Role Overview :

As a Software Development Engineer 2, you will be responsible for designing and implementing robust backend systems that form the backbone of Tesco's retail ecosystem. You will work closely with cross-functional product and engineering teams to translate complex business requirements into high-performance, scalable microservices. Your contributions will directly impact the shopping experience for millions of users, ensuring that our platforms remain resilient, efficient, and capable of handling high-volume traffic during peak retail periods.

Key Responsibilities :

• Architect and develop scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot to support high-traffic retail applications.
• Design and implement secure REST APIs that facilitate seamless communication between frontend interfaces and backend data services.
• Integrate event-driven architectures using Kafka to ensure real-time data processing and system synchronization across distributed platforms.
• Optimize existing backend services for performance, latency, and reliability to improve overall system throughput.
• Collaborate with engineering leads and stakeholders to conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and enforce best practices in software craftsmanship.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining high availability for business-critical systems.

Required Skillset :

• Demonstrated expertise in building enterprise-grade applications using Java and the Spring Boot framework.
• Proven ability to design and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices architectures in a cloud-native environment.
• Strong proficiency in implementing event-driven patterns using Kafka for asynchronous communication.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment, coordinating with global teams to deliver high-quality software increments.
