I am Ambika. I have done my Masters in Social Work. My Social Work England registration number is SW144089.
I was fortunate to have worked with HelpAge India (an NGO specialized in geriatric care). I
Learned how to manage adults with psychiatric problems, elder’s geriatric problems,
addiction and substance abuse related problems, community mental health issues,
rehabilitation techniques and empowerment methodologies. I would very much like to work in a field that involves helping and caring for others, a wish that has partly been shaped by a number of events in my life. I am applying to be a social worker because I have always wanted to be able to make a difference to people’s lives. With social work I believe I can do this in a caring and supportive way.
My volunteering and work experience in CHES, YWCA and HelpAge India taught me to manage persons who suffer from bi polar disorders, mood swings, aggressiveness and who are violent and carried out counselling and therapies as per individual patient’s needs and problems. Worked with women SHGs and assisted in vocational training. I was also providing continuous emotional support on a daily basis and during stressful life changes.
I learnt how to communicate with people about sensitive issues in an appropriate manner,
understanding and being prepared for their reactions to the information. This role significantly improved my communication skills, my patience, and my initiative. As a result,
I became more aware of my own values and beliefs whilst showing respect for all persons and their values, beliefs, cultures, goals, needs and preferences.
The field of social work particularly inspired me due to its holistic perspective of the individual, working at the intersection of home, educational/occupational, and community settings to foster collaboration across support systems.
I am confident that I would be a beneficial addition to your organization.
