Research Project: "Unraveling Molecular and Neural Mechanisms of Visually Driven Sleep in Drosophila Melanogaster." Supervisor: Dr. Ko-Fan Chen, University of Leicester

• Investigated the role of the Neurocalcin (NCA) a calcium sensing protein in sleep-regulating neural circuits in Drosophila melanogaster.
• Employed Drosophila neurogenetics, such as Gal4-UAS system, RNAi for cell-specific knockdown and overexpression of genes (TrpA-1/ dork) for neural activation/ silencing
• Conducted quantitative analyses of sleep using Drosophila Activity Monitor (DAM) to assess behavioral effect.
• Findings showed that downregulating Neurocalcin in photoreceptors induces nigh-time sleep loss, suggesting its regulatory role in sleep.

• Employed Molecular biology techniques, such as DNA extraction (by salting out method) from patient's blood sample, purification, and PCR- RFLP
