I am Devika S Kurup, a professional Bharatanatyam dancer based in Chennai with more than ten years of experience in classical dance, particularly the form of Bharathanatyam. I completed my masters in Bharatanatyam from Dr Jayalalitha Music and Fine Arts University, Chennai.
I am the granddaughter of the late Shree Kooniyur Radhakrishnan, the renowned dancer, art enthusiast and philanthropist from Kerala. With a gold medal, I completed my Diploma and post graduation in Bharathanatyam from Tamil Nadu Government Music College, Chennai. I also hold a Bachelors's and Masters's Degree in English Honours from Madras University. I was initiated into the dance at a younger age by my mother.
I completed my basics in Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniyattam in my childhood. At tenth age, I started learning Bharathanatyam in Kalakshetra style from the well-known Naruyapuram Jayasree. Later I joined the eminent dancer Kalakshetra Shri N Sudarsini for further studies in Bharathanatyam and am presently the disciple of Shri Sudarsini.
Currently I am working in NMACC (Nita Ambani arts and cultural center mumbai) as a dancer. I was fortunate to be part of many prestigious delegations, including India's dance team in the Indo-China Summit, Chennai, in October 2019. I also danced as a delegate to the Tourism Festival by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Recently, I got an opportunity to be a part of the dance team that performed Bharathanatyan in the World Chess Olympiad hosted in Chennai and i performed in utsava bharatham connected by Narada Gana Sabha, chennai. I also had the fortune to dance individually and as a group on many stages in Kerala, including on the Flores of some reputed Television Channels and the sanctums of many famous temples.
