Vatsal Dhar

I am an Advocate enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi in 2024, with a practice built largely around the District Courts of New Delhi and the Delhi High Court. My experience has been shaped by regular court appearances and day-to-day litigation work, including bail matters and trial proceedings before the subordinate courts, as well as applications and arguments before the High Court. I currently assist Shri Akhilesh Singh, Deputy Advocate General for Uttarakhand, in matters before the High Courts and the Supreme Court of India.

My practice has been predominantly on the Criminal side, with a focus on Bail and Quashing matters. This has included regular and anticipatory Bail applications before the subordinate courts and the High Court, and Quashing petitions before the Delhi High Court, as well as cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act. I have also worked on Consumer, Trademark, Defamation, Regulatory, Civil and Matrimonial matters.

I seek to broaden my practice across different areas of law and forums while continuing to build on my experience in litigation. I also have a long-standing interest in Constitutional Law and Legal History.

• Criminal Litigation: Assisted in bail and quashing matters before the High Courts, including researching and analysing judgments, preparing hearing notes and assisting during arguments. Also assisted in trial-court matters involving arguments on cognizance, charge and discharge, cross-examination of witnesses, final arguments and criminal defamation proceedings, including preparation of complaints, applications and electronic evidence documentation.
• White Collar Litigation: Assisted in matters under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act, including bail applications, discharge and charge proceedings, and preparation of applications, written submissions and supporting case materials.
• Consumer Litigation: Worked on consumer complaints and proceedings before Consumer Commissions, including drafting complaints, replies and rejoinders, preparation of evidence by affidavit, applications, written submissions and final arguments, and preparation of matters for hearings.
• Trademark and Copyright: Worked on intellectual property matters, including preparation of cease-and-desist notices, copyright infringement notices, related pleadings and applications, and legal research.
• PROGA / Online Gaming: Assisted clients with regulatory work under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, including preparation and submission of determination applications, research on the applicability of the statutory framework to specific gaming models, and legal due diligence concerning online gaming businesses.
• POSH: Assisted companies with POSH-related legal due diligence and compliance work, including research on the applicable legal framework, review of POSH policies and procedures, and preparation of training material. Conducted POSH training programmes for organisations including News Corp and Dow Jones.
• Cyber Law: Worked on matters involving online fraud and identity theft, including preparation of cyber complaints, supporting documents and work relating to electronic evidence.
• National Green Tribunal: Supported NGT proceedings, including preparation of pleadings and case papers, legal research and preparation for hearings.
• Contracts and Employment Documentation: Drafted and reviewed contracts, NDAs and employment agreements.

Chambers of Shri Suyash Sinha, Advocate (2025-01 – 2025-08)

• District Court Criminal Litigation: Assisted in bail applications, arguments on cognizance, charge and discharge, cross-examination of witnesses and final arguments in trial proceedings. Also worked on routine criminal applications concerning superdari and interim custody of vehicles and case property, exemption from personal appearance, cancellation and recall of warrants, and supply and inspection of judicial records. Regularly researched judgments and prepared case notes and materials for hearings.
• Negotiable Instruments Act: Worked on complaints under Section 138, from drafting and filing through issuance of summons, appearance of the accused, notice, complainant's evidence, cross-examination, defence evidence and final arguments.
• Motor Accident Claims / Motor Vehicles Act: Assisted in MACT matters, including preparation of claim petitions, replies and applications, examination of accident-related documents, preparation of evidence and assistance in arguments relating to compensation and liability.
• Matrimonial Litigation: Assisted in divorce proceedings under the Hindu Marriage Act, cases under the Domestic Violence Act, maintenance proceedings under Section 125 CrPC and applications for interim maintenance. Also worked on child custody, visitation and guardianship proceedings under the Guardians and Wards Act, including preparation of petitions, replies, interim applications and supporting documents.

• Court and Litigation Practice: Gained hands-on experience in the day-to-day functioning of the District Courts, including filing and re-filing of matters, attending court proceedings, following up on objections and compliance, obtaining and checking orders, preparing routine applications, affidavits and other pleadings, and assisting with the conduct of matters before the Court.
• Criminal Matters: Assisted in drafting complaints and representations for registration of FIRs, criminal applications and supporting affidavits. Worked on reading and analysing case files, preparing case briefs, chronologies and notes, identifying relevant issues and tracing the applicable provisions of law. Regularly researched case law through SCC Online and Manupatra, including finding relevant judgments, extracting applicable propositions and paragraphs, and preparing case law compilations and citations for matters listed before the Court. • Civil and Property Matters: Assisted in suits relating to injunction, recovery and partition, including preparation of plaints, written statements, applications for interim relief under Order XXXIX CPC, replies and other interlocutory applications.
• Recovery and Section 138 Matters: Assisted in cheque dishonour complaints under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act and connected recovery proceedings, including drafting and filing of complaints, preparation of supporting documents and affidavits, and attending proceedings before the Court.
• Matrimonial Matters: Assisted in mutual consent divorce petitions, maintenance applications and allied matrimonial proceedings before the Family Courts, including preparation of petitions, affidavits, applications and supporting documents, and attending hearings.
