Moupiya Bhattacharyya

I have recently completed my M.Sc. in Microbiology, with a dissertation focused on 'Bioprospecting of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) from Traditional Fermented Foods and Assessment of their Antibacterial Properties'. Through this work, I developed hands-on expertise in microbial isolation and identification, biochemical and physiological characterization, growth studies, antimicrobial activity evaluation, aseptic laboratory techniques, and microbiological data analysis. My academic training and research experience have strengthened my interest in applied microbiology, particularly in the food, pharmaceutical, dairy, and FMCG sectors, with a strong inclination toward quality control, product safety, research, and industrial microbiology applications.

Bioprospecting of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) from Traditional Fermented Foods and Assessment of their Antibacterial Properties.

• Isolated and characterized lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from various traditional fermented food samples
• Performed morphological, biochemical, physiological, and growth characterization studies for the identification of potential LAB isolates
• Evaluated the antibacterial activity of selected LAB isolates against different pathogenic bacterial strains using antimicrobial screening methods
• Study concluded that several LAB isolates demonstrated promising antibacterial potential, indicating their possible application in probiotics, food safety, and functional food development

Study on the Ethnomedicinal Properties of Fruit Waste for Sustainable Production of Pharmacologically Active Compounds.

• Investigated different locally available discarded fruit waste
• Performed antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory and phytochemical tests on nine aqueous fruit waste extract
• Test concluded that pomegranate, sweet lime, and papaya peel extracts have significant medicinal properties
