Synthesis, Characterization and Photophysical Behavior of (1H-1,2,3-Triazol-4-yl) Pyridine Based Ruthenium Complexes. Final Semester project with 5-6 months duration.

• Synthesized a ruthenium metal precursor and two 1,2,3-triazole ligands, followed by preparation of four ruthenium complexes using commercially available and synthesized ruthenium precursors.
• Applied laboratory synthesis and purification techniques including reflux/heating, stirring, solvent extraction and recrystallization; developed additional column chromatography experience through general chemistry laboratory work.
• Prepared samples for ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, FTIR and HRMS and interpreted the resulting spectra/data; personally operated UV–Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy for data acquisition.
• Conducted UV–Vis absorption and fluorescence studies of the synthesized complexes and investigated their interactions with human serum albumin (HSA).
• Performed Stern–Volmer and Scatchard analyses and determined Stern–Volmer quenching constants (Ksv), quenching rate constants, HSA binding constants and number of binding sites.

Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Evaluation of Cerium-Doped Calcium Silicate for Orthopaedic Application. Part of coursework.

• Synthesized 1, 2 and 3 mol% Ce-doped rankinite by sol–gel combustion using calcium nitrate, cerium nitrate and TEOS, with citric acid as fuel, followed by combustion and calcination.
• Prepared pellets and simulated body fluid (SBF) for in-vitro bioactivity evaluation over 9 days, with periodic SBF replacement and triplicate experiments.
• Characterized samples using XRD and FTIR and interpreted phase formation, structural changes and apatite deposition following SBF immersion.
• Compared Ce concentrations and observed the most pronounced hydroxyapatite formation for the 3 mol% composition based on XRD and FTIR results.
