SDE-1, Backend - GoKwik - Bengaluru, India
(2025-08)
- Architected an asynchronous, lossless media-compression pipeline (S3 → SQS → Lambda) in a dedicated kc-media-processor service with idempotency markers, DLQ-backed retries, and full metadata/header passthrough, compressing images post-upload with zero added upload-API latency and a >99% compression-success target on eligible files; later extended the same event-driven pattern to video.
- Designed and rolled out database-layer SQL-injection protection for ClickHouse-backed endpoints in kwikos-be through a centralized query-sanitization guard, shipped in phases (monitoring → detection → blocking), and reduced false positives to near-zero by analyzing 600+ production query patterns and exempting legitimate messaging payloads.
- Hardened WhatsApp message delivery against data-store failures with a durable DB-persistence path and a custom DBSaveError, so in-flight messages survive MongoDB outages with zero duplicate sends to customers, and filtered non-retryable errors (rate-limit, validation, opt-out) out of the DLQ retry loop to eliminate wasteful retries.
- Drove a production error analysis across 685K+ failed WhatsApp records, isolating ∼18% true system failures from ∼82% business-logic blocks, and fixed a phone-number validation defect responsible for 99.83% false-positive rejection of valid numbers, recovering large-scale message deliverability.
- Built PII-logging protection across backend services with field-level log encryption, redaction, and internal PII-access APIs, closing a third-party VAPT security finding while preserving log debuggability.
- Owned backend features end-to-end: the Mobile Push (FCM) notification backend (unified config schema and migration, send-message integration, cache invalidation) and WhatsApp carousel-template support in EventEngine automation flows (template builder and per-card variable transforms across BSP providers).
- Reduced Jenkins build times across the team's repositories by restructuring multi-stage Dockerfiles and dependency caching, and owned CI/CD releases to dev, sandbox, and production via Jenkins and ArgoCD with pod and application health/log monitoring.
- Served 3 on-call rotations (2 primary, 1 secondary), owning production incident response across all severities: resolved Sev-1 / Sev-2 issues within SLA with documented RCA and code fixes, and cleared Sev-3 / lower-priority tickets within their SLA windows via quick resolution or escalation; in one 16-day primary window closed 91 tickets (system alerts + merchant issues) at ∼99% closure with zero merchant-impacting outages and no SLA breaches, using SigNoz, CloudWatch, and MongoDB/ClickHouse cro
