Sornajaa Thirumaran

Good afternoon.My name is dr sornajaa.I finished my mbbs in 2014.after two years of preparing for entrance exams, i got into a three year residency program in emergency medicine in a reputed hospital in Bangalore, india. Alongside I wrote and cleared mrcem.After my training I moved to Mumbai and joined one of the leading hospitals of the country, Apollo hospitals.its a 500bedded tertiary care centre with state of the art facilities.the ed was top notch with 20beds all with bedside monitors, wall mount suction and oxygen ports, hence capable of resuscitation.however there were separate triage areas, 3 adult resus beds and one pediatric resus bed. We catered to both the adult and paediatric population emergencies but the pediatric crowd formed only a fraction of the total cases.

We received approximately 70-90 patients in a day, the numbers going beyond 100 and even 120 on some days.We dealt with all kinds of emergencies except psychiatry and burns.so i have very little exposure in psychiatry except for an occasional agitated patient who had an organic cause for their agitation. I have handled a lot of polytrauma, ran acls megacodes as the team leader and also worked as a team member sometimes, handled various medical, surgical orthopaedic and gynaecologic emergencies.i have performed a number of ultrasound guided as well as blind procedures.i am an expert at handling airway..having handled various difficult airways as well. We had to liaise with doctors of other specialities as part of patient care.

All these have improved my ability to work in a busy, fast paced environment.honed my communication skills, and being a good team player is one of my strengths.

As i was the senior registrar i had to supervise upto 3 junior doctors per shift and assist them as was required.

We had dedicated teaching sessions separately for junior and middle grade trainees.I undertook teaching sessions and hands on training sessions for them on a weekly basis and also organised and conducted theory and practical examination for them.

At present i am on maternity break.As my son is old enoug now, i.e.,9months i would like to get back to work.
