DevOps Engineer

We are currently looking for a Mid-Level DevOps Engineer to join a Data Platform Department in Tokyo.

The department is building an enterprise data platform that supports more than 70 services. The platform automates the ingestion, discovery, governance, and querying of data, helping the organization become increasingly data-driven.

You will help design, implement, automate, and operate distributed infrastructure supporting large-scale data-processing applications. The environment combines public cloud and on-premises computing resources.

This is a long-term contract opportunity suitable for a DevOps, Site Reliability, or Platform Engineer with strong Linux, Kubernetes, infrastructure automation, and observability experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate distributed systems infrastructure
• Develop infrastructure automation and internal tooling
• Build and maintain Kubernetes-based infrastructure
• Manage infrastructure using Terraform, Ansible, and GitOps workflows
• Collect infrastructure metrics and create KPI dashboards
• Build and maintain logging, monitoring, alerting, and tracing systems
• Operate hybrid infrastructure across public cloud and on-premises environments
• Improve platform reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency
• Support highly available systems operating on a 24/7 basis
• Collaborate with data engineers, data analysts, developers, and other internal stakeholders
• Translate business and platform requirements into technical infrastructure solutions
• Create technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks

Required qualifications

• At least five years of experience in UNIX/Linux system administration and network operations
• At least three years of experience in infrastructure automation
• Professional experience with Kubernetes
• Hands-on experience with Terraform
• Hands-on experience with Ansible
• Experience with ArgoCD or other GitOps workflows
• Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or another major cloud platform
• Experience managing hybrid infrastructure involving public cloud and on-premises environments
• Experience designing observability solutions covering logging, monitoring, alerting, and tracing
• Proficiency in Python or Go for infrastructure tooling and automation
• Experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, ArgoCD, or similar CI/CD technologies
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Business-level English
• Currently residing in Japan

Preferred qualifications

• Experience building internal developer platforms or self-service infrastructure
• Experience with HashiCorp Vault, Open Policy Agent, or infrastructure security and compliance
• Experience with Istio, Linkerd, or another service mesh
• Experience supporting data-platform technologies such as Kafka, Airflow, Spark, BigQuery, or Trino
• Experience monitoring and optimizing cloud infrastructure costs
• Experience creating technical architecture diagrams and operational runbooks
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field

Position details

• Working days: Monday to Friday
• Holidays: Weekends and Japanese public holidays
• Employment type: Long-term contract
• Initial contract: Two months, followed by three-month renewals
• Compensation: Up to JPY 6,000,000 per year
• Language: Business-level English
• Japanese: Not required
• Candidates must currently reside in Japan
