Manager, Controllers

Position Overview The Manager, Controllers will serve as a key partner to the Director of Controllers, supporting effective team management and the successful execution of day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities.

The role will provide hands-on guidance to team members and external accounting service providers, help drive operational excellence, and contribute to building a reliable, scalable, and well-controlled accounting and reporting function.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes in collaboration with internal teams and external accounting service providers, ensuring timely and accurate results.
Manage accounting and financial reporting activities for the company and its subsidiaries or special purpose entities (SPCs), ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, internal policies, and business requirements.
Oversee accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processes, including invoice review, payment approvals, invoice issuance, general ledger coding, and related controls.
Review monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages under applicable accounting standards, provide guidance on accounting treatment, and ensure the quality and accuracy of deliverables prepared by external service providers.
Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes and perform monthly variance analysis, providing clear explanations of financial results and key business drivers to management and relevant stakeholders.
Prepare, review, and coordinate lender or financing-related reporting, including financial covenant testing, cash flow or waterfall calculations, and other required financing reports.
Review and approve employee expense reimbursements, ensuring compliance with company policies, tax regulations, supporting documentation requirements, and appropriate accounting classification.
Analyze new, complex, or ad-hoc transactions from an accounting perspective, determine appropriate accounting treatment, and provide practical recommendations in coordination with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
Review tax filing materials and supporting schedules prepared by external tax advisors, ensuring consistency with accounting records and timely completion of required filings.
Provide guidance, training, and mentoring to junior team members and contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and controls.
Work closely with internal stakeholders, external advisors, auditors, accounting service providers, and other business partners as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience

3–6 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, financial audit, or a related field.
2–3 years of hands-on experience with SPC, subsidiary, project, or similar entity accounting.
Experience leading, training, or mentoring junior staff.
Experience working with external accounting or professional service providers.
Strong understanding of financial close, reporting, reconciliations, and accounting processes.

Skills & Certifications

Accounting qualification such as Nissho Boki Grade 3 or higher, or equivalent professional accounting knowledge.
Professional accounting or tax qualifications are preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Languages

Japanese: Native-level proficiency.
English: Business-level proficiency, including experience using English in a professional environment.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with a Big Four accounting firm or equivalent professional services environment.
Experience with fixed asset accounting, construction accounting, or project-based accounting.
Experience in real estate, infrastructure, data centers, or other asset-intensive industries.
Experience working with accounting systems and financial reporting platforms.
