Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join an onsite engineering team in Japan, supporting the design and continuous improvement of advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

This role is ideal for a hands-on mechanical engineer with strong Siemens NX or Solid Edge experience who can work effectively in a bilingual, customer-facing engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design mechanical components, assemblies, chambers and related equipment for semiconductor manufacturing systems.
• Create, review and modify 2D drawings and 3D CAD models using Siemens NX or Solid Edge.
• Investigate technical issues and implement design improvements for performance, quality, reliability and manufacturability.
• Support engineering analysis, including thermal and structural/strength analysis, where required.
• Perform root-cause investigations and support troubleshooting through resolution.
• Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, reports and other technical documentation.
• Coordinate technical requirements, design changes, risks and actions across Japanese and international engineering teams.
• Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and respond effectively to changing technical requirements.
• Follow applicable engineering, safety, information-security and confidentiality standards.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of practical mechanical design experience using Siemens NX and/or Solid Edge.
• 5+ years of experience creating and reviewing 2D drawings and 3D models.
• Business-level English and Japanese proficiency (JLPT N3+)
• Ability to work independently, take ownership and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
• Experience coordinating engineering activities with multiple stakeholders.
• Comfortable working onsite in Japan in a customer-facing engineering environment.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment, particularly plasma etching or related systems.
• Mechanical design experience involving chambers, vacuum equipment, piping, frames, modules or precision industrial equipment.
• Experience with CAE, thermal analysis, structural/strength analysis or engineering validation.
• Knowledge of engineering change control, design reviews, drawing standards and product improvement processes.
• Previous experience working within a Japanese engineering environment or multicultural project team.
