Process Engineer – Lithium-ion Battery Manufacturing
Location: AESC Ibaraki Plant, Japan
About the Role
AESC is looking for a Process Engineer to support mass production of lithium-ion batteries at our Ibaraki Plant. In this role, you will optimize manufacturing processes, improve quality and productivity, and drive continuous improvement to support safe, efficient, and cost-competitive production.
Key Responsibilities
- Optimize manufacturing processes for battery cell, module, and pack assembly
- Analyze production data to identify root causes, improve yield, and reduce defects
- Drive process capability (Cpk) improvements and production efficiency
- Identify bottlenecks and improve line balancing and throughput
- Investigate quality issues and implement effective corrective actions
- Support compliance with ISO/IATF quality standards
- Promote workplace safety, equipment safety, and environmental compliance
- Utilize MES, IoT, and production data to monitor processes and support data-driven improvements
- Apply AI and analytics for predictive quality improvement and anomaly detection where applicable
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Materials, or a related engineering discipline
- 3+ years of experience in process, production, or equipment engineering within a manufacturing environment
- Experience in lithium-ion battery or EV battery manufacturing is highly preferred
- Knowledge of CCD cameras, image processing, or automated inspection systems is an advantage
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings
- Strong problem-solving skills using root cause analysis and quality tools (5 Whys, QC tools)
- Proficiency in Excel and basic statistical analysis
Language Requirements
- Japanese: Native or Business Level (JLPT N1 or equivalent)
- English or Chinese business communication skills are an advantage
Preferred Qualifications
- Low-voltage electrical certification
- EV-related maintenance or similar technical certifications
